RANDLEMAN, North Carolina (March 13, 2012) - - Mother Nature may have won the battle, but Randleman, North Carolina native Ryan Wilson is ready to win the war.
Rain plagued the 2012 season-opener for Wilson and his Ryan Wilson Motorsports (RWM) team at Southern National (N.C.) Motorsports Park (SNMP) two weeks ago, but the rescheduled-event is drawing near and the 20-year old is eager to get behind the wheel of his No. 12 Southern Pharmacy Services / Randolph Bank Toyota Camry.
Description: WilsonThe game plan has been changed though for this weekend, well, sort of. Instead of one 150-lap contest, track officials have elected to break the event up into two 75-lap showdowns.
While, RWM has never competed at Southern National, the team led by crew chief Kirk Bryant conducted a private test at the historic short track last month with satisfying results. Heading back to the track this weekend, the team knows that the competition is expected to be stout; but feels that there’re more than ready for the challenges they may face.
“The rain was a teaser for us all,” offered Wilson, the 2010 fall winner of
Richard Petty Driver Search II. “We all hate to wait, but it gave us the opportunity to go back to the shop and prepare ourselves even more for this weekend’s race at Southern National. It should be a good weekend for us, we’re looking forward to it. It would be sweet to start of the year with a celebration in victory lane for everyone on this team and our sponsors.”
He added, “Kirk (Bryant, crew chief) and the team have been methodically preparing for the year. We’re aiming for a state championship and the drive is in us now more than ever to get that accomplished. Hopefully, the twins (75-lap events) will be kind to us and we’ll take down the competition in our No. 12 Southern Pharmacy Services / Randolph Bank Toyota Camry.”
Action begins at Southern National (N.C.) Motorsports Park on Saturday, March 17. Practice begins at 10:00 a.m. sharp and racing by 2:00 p.m. that afternoon. In case of inclement weather again, the track has tentatively etched the following day, Sunday, March 18 as a rain date.
