CLERMONT, Indiana (July 25, 2011) - - Officials from Win-Tron Racing announced today that NASCAR Whelen-All American Series superstar Ryan Wilson will pilot the team’s No. 32 Champion Brands Toyota Camry in Thursday’s Ansell Protective Gloves 200 at Lucas Oil Raceway (LOR) at Indianapolis.
Wilson, the winner of last fall’s
Richard Petty Driver Search II returns to the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards since making his inaugural debut at Rockingham (N.C.) Speedway last October in a car owned by the legendary Richard Petty. After starting 19th, Wilson kept his nose clean and maneuvered a respectable 14th place finish in the final race of the season.
Now having the opportunity to team up with the potent Win-Tron Racing team based out of Lakeville, Minnesota, Wilson is looking to keep the team’s strong season alive while continue to enhance his learning curve at LOR.
“I’m thankful and appreciative for the opportunity to drive for Win-Tron Racing,” said Wilson, a native of Randleman, North Carolina. “I’ve been able to hang out with the team on a few occasions at the track this season and they really are a great bunch. I’m excited to be returning to ARCA and have a team like Win-Tron on my side.”
The 19-year old continued, “There isn’t any question that we can go out there on Thursday night and be competitive in our first race together. I’ve done a lot of conversing with Mike (Chaffee, crew chief) and Nate (Thiesse, co car-owner) over the last couple of weeks, so we all know what we expect from each other. This is a new ball game for them too this week.”
In 11 races this season, Win-Tron Racing has collected one win, four top-fives and six top-10 finishes. While, it’s obvious, the team would be satisfied with a top-10 run this week, the avid short track racer wouldn’t mind contending for the victory.
“I’m a winner and I want to win,” Wilson explained. “However, I know that I have to be realistic. But, I know that this team has pulled off some great accomplishments with new drivers, so I’m anxious to have the opportunity to do the same.”
ARCA’s return to the Indiana short track after 25 years signifies the 11th race that Champion Hi-Tech Lubricants, a division of Champion Brands will heed the role as the primary sponsor for the Lakeville, Minnesota-based team. Headquartered in Clinton, Missouri, Champion Brands LLC produces and blends more than 300 products including fuel, oil and engine additives and lubricants for the automotive, heavy truck, agricultural and specialty markets.
“It’s a great honor to be representing Champion Hi-Tech Lubricants and their brands this weekend at Lucas Oil Raceway. I want to do a good job for them, so I can’t think of anything better to do than try and put our No. 32 Champion Brands Toyota Camry up front.”
Thiesse welcomes Wilson to the Win-Tron Racing family and is enthusiastic about having a driver of his caliber at the helm.
“Everyone’s had their eyes on Ryan for a while now,” Thiesse explained. “He was turning heads before he won the driver search last year and considering his experience in ARCA, he did a tremendous job at Rockingham. We’re excited to have him behind the wheel of our No. 32 Champion Brands Toyota this week and look forward to not only a good finish but a great relationship too.”
In addition to Champion Brands, Win-Tron Racing and Wilson will bring awareness and attentiveness to the Trinity Children Foundation, which focuses on the issues of child abuse and neglect. Through faith, hope and love the foundation the foundation addresses the need for food, clothing, shelter and health care for children while providing for emotional stability for orphans, underprivileged, and at risk children.
