Ryan Wilson Makes Huge Strides At Caraway Speedway

ASHEBORO, North Carolina (April 27, 2011) - - With two top-10 finishes at Caraway (N.C.) Speedway in the No. 12 Randolph Bank Toyota Camry on Saturday night, Ryan Wilson further accelerated his dreams of becoming a NASCAR Whelen All-American Series (NWAAS) champion.

After qualifying sixth for the first 50-lap feature, Wilson drew third to start round four of the season. After quickly motoring his No. 12 Randolph Bank Toyota Camry into the lead, handling issues would develop which would slip Wilson back to second and eventually fourth before beginning to reel back in the cars in second and third.

While closing back in on the second and third positions, the yellow flag would wave which opened the opportunity for Wilson to take the outside line and try to retake the lead. While trying to get down in second after the restart, Wilson’s car broke loose and he was freight-trained back to the seventh position. Running low on laps, Wilson was able to race for sixth which is where he would take the checkered flag.

The second 50-lap feature saw the No. 12 Randolph Bank Toyota Camry start on the outside of row one before slipping to third shortly after taking the green. While hovering in the third spot, Wilson would be overtaken only one more time to land in fourth which is where he crossed the start-finish line.

“I’m upset with the outcome of the first race,” said the ARCA-bound driver. “We had a pretty decent Randolph Bank Toyota Camry but I took a chance on the last restart and it ended up costing us. The second race was pretty uneventful. We didn’t have enough to get the win but we will continue to get better and better.”

With his performances on Saturday night, Wilson made a heavy climb in the championship standings rising from eighth to second just four points from the top-spot.

“It’s good that we made up some points, but I’m not paying too much attention to it this early in the season. If we keep getting good finishes and get some wins, the points will take care of themselves.” Wilson added. “We just need to continue to go out there and run up front and hopefully this championship can come to us.”

Round six for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series at Caraway resumes on Sunday, May 22nd with a 200-lap Super 5 showdown.

In the coming weeks, RWM will announce additional Late Model competition at other North Carolina race venues.
