Kimmel Racing Embraces New Sponsor; Opportunity Heading To Talladega

TALLADEGA, Alabama (May 2, 2012) - - When the dust settled in a thrilling finish at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway in February, Will Kimmel, the new driver for Clarksville, Indiana-based Kimmel Racing emerged with a spectacular third place finish in the Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200. With the series’ returning to another superspeedway, the team is eyeing a repeat performance in Friday’s International Motorsports Hall of Fame 250 at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway.
Aiding the team in their efforts this week at Talladega will be new sponsor Tilted Kilt, who will serve as the primary sponsor of the team’s No. 68 Ford Fusion for the fourth race of the year.
The Tilted Kilt is a Celtic-themed sports bar and restaurant chain with the nearest location in Alabama located in Birmingham. Tilted Kilt is in the business of lifting spirits one burger, one beer, one guest, one visit, at a time. The Tilted Kilt experience is one-of-a-kind and will always leave you in a better mood than when you arrived.
This is the restaurant’s second foray into Motorsports after sponsoring NASCAR Camping World Truck Series champion Todd Bodine at Atlanta (Ga.) Motor Speedway in 2009.
“I can’t begin to tell you what it means to us to have Tilted Kilt step up to the plate and help us out for Talladega,” said driver Will Kimmel. “I’m hoping that we can welcome them to our racing family and into the ARCA Racing Series with a strong run on Friday afternoon.”
A good run is certainly favorable for the Kimmel Racing organization, especially following the recently conducted test session at the 2.66-mile superspeedway which saw the No. 68 Tilted Kilt Ford Fusion lead the two-day session overall in a group of 26.
“To be honest, after Daytona we weren’t sure if we were going to be able to make it to Talladega, but with the help of Tilted Kilt and all of our other marketing partners we’re focused on trying to become the fourth different winner in 2012 but most importantly, a first-time winner. That would be incredibly huge for this “small” team.”
Indeed, the feat would be remarkable but the Alabama-based track has proven to supply first time winners on the 60-year tour most recently, Dakoda Armstrong (2010), so the task is not impossible.
To better the team’s chances, members of the Kimmel Racing including team owner, crew chief and father Bill Kimmel team hustled from Indiana to Mooresville, North Carolina on Monday to meet with their engine supplier RoushYates Engines. Kimmel though had to stay back in Southern Indiana to attend to the duties of his everyday business, a landscaping company.
“RoushYates has been incredibly good to us,” sounded Kimmel. “They’re really doing everything in their power to give us an even better motor than what we had in Daytona and that just shows that they care about their customers. Hopefully, with our fingers crossed, we can deliver on Friday afternoon.”
The International Motorsports Hall of Fame 250 (94 laps / 250 miles) is the fourth of 20 events on the 2012 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards schedule. The 50th ever ARCA race at Talladega Superspeedway is a two-day show. Practice begins Thursday, May 3rd with a three hour practice session planned from 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Menards pole qualifying presented by Ansell is set for later in the day slated to begin at 5:05 p.m. Coverage of time trials is available online through the ARCA Racing Network (ARN) online at arcaracing.com in collaboration with Alabama’s local WTDR Thunder 92.7 FM.
