DUQUOIN, Illinois (August 29, 2012) - - On the heels of their season-best finish in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards last Sunday night at Madison (Wisc.) International Speedway, Josh Williams and his Josh Williams Motorsports (JWM) team look to keep their late season surge alive in Monday’s Southern Illinois 100 presented by Federated Car Care at the DuQuoin (Ill.) State Fairgrounds.

The team’s fourth top-10 finish of the season and first since June has given the family-owned team some much needed ammunition to keep the momentum train rolling with hopes of keeping their ultimate goal of finishing inside the top-10 in the ARCA Racing Series point standings very much certain with just three races remaining in ARCA’s 60th year anniversary tour.

There’s no hiding behind that running 16 races and sitting out Elko (Minn.) Speedway this year with extremely limited funds has aspired the Concord, North Carolina based team to be creative in finding ways to see the checkered flag on a week-to-week basis. However, momentum is often used as the perfect remedy for success and Williams hopes that old term’ saying will spell out a strong result on Labor Day.

“Obviously, we are very antsy about DuQuoin,” said Williams, who occupies 10th in the ARCA Racing Series point standings after 17 races. “After a run like we had at Madison, I was ready to race the next day. But, we’ve had a few days to take in the finish and look to go to DuQuoin on Monday and hope with a little luck we can back up the finish with another top-10 result.”

The Port Charlotte, Florida native knows however that a top-10 performance won’t come without a lot of hard work and a little luck, but the Floridian admits that his team is used to those types of scenarios.

“In a sense we’ve had to work harder than some of the other ARCA Racing Series because of the limited resources we have,” explained Williams. “Sure, it would be nice to have some of the necessities that some of the other teams have, but then again, when we’re able to be as competitive as we’ve been the last couple of weeks, it just makes us appreciate what we’ve had that much more.”

A guaranteed top-15 finish was in the books for JWM on August 19 at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield, Illinois but a flat tire in the final stages of the Allen Crowe 100 dropped the No. 02 Southwest Florida Construction Chevrolet out of that box and instead resulted in a 18th place finish. Still, the former INEX Legends Car Series standout believes he can grasp what he learned a few weeks ago and apply it to the final dirt track race of the season.

“I learned a bunch, a ton,” stated Williams, reflecting on Springfield. “Without a doubt what we learned there can indeed move over to DuQuoin – even if the tracks aren’t the same. I’m sure there will be more that we have to inhale on Monday, but I’ll have a better idea with what I can and can’t get away with and hopefully that will help us achieve our fifth top-10 run of the year.”

The next three races on the ARCA Racing Series tour definitely justify the word diverse. Following the 1.0-mile dirt track of the DuQuoin (Ill.) State Fairgrounds, the teams will enjoy a brief one-week break before returning to the breathtaking half-mile oval of Salem (Ind.) Speedway for a Saturday night short track fight before concluding their 20-race schedule again under the lights at the newly repaved 1.5-mile oval of Kansas Speedway on October 19.

After 17 races, JWM has competed in 16 of them and officially occupies a respectable 10th in the championship standings. This season, the team has amounted four top-10 finishes including a season best of seventh at Madison (Wisc.) International Speedway, a ninth at Salem (Ind.) Speedway, a 10th at the treacherous Winchester (Ind.) Speedway and at the 2.5-mile triangle of Pocono (Pa.) Raceway in June. An 11th place qualifying run also at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway in June and at the Illinois State Fairgrounds (Springfield) is the team’s best time trials effort to date thus far.

The Southern Illinois 100 presented by Federated Car Care (100 laps / 100 miles) is the 18th of 20 events on the 2012 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards schedule. The 30th ARCA event held at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds is a one-day show. Practice begins Monday, September 3 with a one-hour practice session planned from 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. Menards pole qualifying presented by Ansell is set for just an hour later slated to begin at 11:00 a.m. The event will take the green flag a short time later just after 1:00 p.m. The race will not be televised but additional coverage including a radio broadcast and timing and scoring will be available through the ARCA Racing Network (ARN) online at arcaracing.com. All times are local (Central).
