MOBILE, Alabama (March 8, 2012) - - After a less than desirable finish in the season-opening race at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway, Josh Williams is quite satisfied with getting back to familiar territory as the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards thunders towards Southern Alabama for the running of the Mobile ARCA 200 on Saturday afternoon at Mobile (Ala.) International Speedway.

With Daytona’s 33rd place effort now clearly in the rear-view mirror, Williams and his Josh Williams Motorsports (JWM) team have been vigorously working on their No. 02 Southwest Florida Cable Construction Ford Fusion all in hopes of earning some recognition and respect in the first short track race of the season.

In all aspects, William’s family-owned team shined with their short track program last season including stout finishes of sixth at Salem (Ind.) Speedway and eighth at Lucas Oil Raceway (LOR), both incredibly noted as demanding race tracks. Despite heading into the weekend clueless about Mobile’s track characteristics, Williams and his Jeremy Crandall led team are up for the challenge.

“Mobile’s going to be new for a lot of us,” Williams explained. “That can actually be a good thing. Other than the teams that tested, it puts a lot of us on the same level playing field and that’s okay by me. We’re bringing a 105-inch Roush Fenway Racing Ford to Mobile this weekend and we’re confident in its potential.”

He added, “Earlier this week, we spent the day shaking down the car at Caraway (N.C.) Speedway. We made a lot of changes throughout the day that helped us give a footing that we feel will help us be strong when we unload for practice on Friday. Thankfully, it’s a pretty long session, so we’ll have time to make some more adjustments and see if we can’t get our No. 02 Southwest Florida Cable Construction Ford Fusion dialed in right.”

In the midst of changes with the JWM organization since Daytona, the Port Charlotte, Florida native will have an ole’ friend calling the shots from atop of the pit box this weekend. Crandall has been linked with Williams back to his Late Model days in the state of Florida – but the duo is eager to show that they can prove themselves as a potent combination in ARCA.

“I have full confidence and trust in Jeremy,” the Floridian noted. “We’ve been through a lot together and if our communication is any indicator on how well we gelled at Caraway, everyone should be a little concerned,” he laughed.

Currently stuck deep in the race for the ARCA championship title (33rd overall), Williams and his team have set their own individuals goals for this weekend.

“I think we have a good opportunity to make some noise with our “small” team,” Williams sounded. “After our misfortune at Daytona, were just looking to keep the fenders on our car and maneuver a good clean solid finish that will allow us to take this same car to Salem, one of my favorite race tracks next month. Consistent finishes for sure will help as we try to add more sponsors to our team and climb our way back up the points ladder.”

The Mobile ARCA 200 (200 laps / 100 miles) is the second of 20 events on the 2012 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards schedule. The first ARCA race held at MIS is a two-day show. Practice begins Friday, March 9 with a three and a half hour practice session planned from 1:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. Menards pole qualifying presented by Ansell is set for later in the day at 7:00 p.m. An on-track autograph session has been etched in on race day, Saturday, March 10 from 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. The event will take the green flag shortly after 2:00 p.m. The race will not be televised on SPEED but additional race coverage including live timing and scoring will be available through the ARCA Racing Network (ARN) online at arcaracing.com. All times are local.
