CLERMONT, Indiana (July 25, 2011) - - Allgaier Motorsports, the 2008 ARCA Racing Series championship team has set their sights on Thursday night’s Ansell Protective Gloves 200 at Lucas Oil Raceway (LOR) at Indianapolis as a chance to swindle their way into victory lane for the first time in 2011.
Should the Allgaier Motorsports team with driver Grant Enfinger aboard pull off the feat, the Springfield, Illinois-based team will be the first to take the ARCA trophy at the Indiana short track in nearly 25 years.
After 11 races this season, Enfinger and his team have every right to boast about a solid season. Through Iowa Speedway, the driver of the No. 36 Hoosier Tire Midwest / racetires.com Dodge Charger has mounted one pole, four top-fives and 11 top-10 finishes with a worst finish of 14th at Toledo Speedway in May.
Showing consistency is key to success in the ARCA Racing Series, but the team is craving victory. To help them accomplish their mission, the Fairhope, Alabama native and his team participated in a private test at the .686-mile paved oval recently hoping to gain an advantage over the rest of the competition.
“I’m glad we tested,” said Enfinger, who will make his 30th career ARCA start this week. “We were able to knock out the test on our way to Iowa. We don’t have the opportunity to test a lot during the season, so we had to take advantage of the opportunity.
The track is unique, but I like it. I think track position will be everything on Thursday night. Looking at the entry list it looks like it’s going to be a stout field, so no doubt getting those five hours on the track was crucial to us. I think while track position is important, handling may be just as crucial. Another reason for testing is we want to win. Everyone on the Allgaier Motorsports team deserves to experience that satisfaction again. We’ve been close this year on a couple of occasions, but we just haven’t been able to seal the deal. Maybe, just maybe Thursday night will put a period to that task.”
Previously known for his strength on bigger tracks in ARCA competition, the alignment with Allgaier Motorsports and crew chief Kelly Kovski this year has proved that the 26-year old is a contender no matter where they land.
“I didn’t have a whole lot of short track experience in ARCA before this season,” Enfinger explained. “I’ll admit, I’ve had some learning to do; but it’s paid off. We’ve kept our No. 36 Hoosier Tire Midwest / racetires.com Dodge Charger up front as much as we can. And if we haven’t been able to contend for the win, we’ve still managed a good effort. I think once we finally win, it will give this team that extra charge to go out there and set the series on fire, much like they did at the end of 2008.”
With eight races remaining, Enfinger and Co. lock fourth in the ARCA Racing Series championship standings just 25 points behind third place runner and nine-time champion Frank Kimmel. The team’s fourth place outing at Iowa allowed them to pad their lead over fifth place runner Tim George Jr.
Entering LOR, Enfinger has 29 ARCA Racing Series starts to his credit. In those events, he has maneuvered 11 top-fives and 19 top-10 finishes including a career-best finish of second three times at Kentucky Speedway (July 2009), Chicagoland Speedway (August 2009), and Toledo Speedway (May 2011)). He has controlled the field nine times for 216 laps. His best qualifying run occurred at Berlin (Mich.) Raceway where Enfinger bolted to his first career pole.
The Ansell Protective Gloves 200 (200 laps / 137 miles) is the 12th of 19 events on the 2011 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards schedule. The eighth ever ARCA race at Lucas Oil Raceway is a one-day show. Practice begins Thursday, July 28 with an hour and a half practice session planned from 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. Menards Pole by Ansell qualifying is slated for later in the day set to begin at 4:30 p.m. The event will take the green flag shortly after 7:00 p.m. The event will air live on SPEED. Additional event coverage including live timing and scoring throughout the 1,324th race for the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards since it was formed in 1953 will be available through the ARCA Racing Network (ARN) online at arcaracing.com presented by ARCANation.com.
