CONCORD, North Carolina (June 7, 2011) - - With the 2011 Summer Shootout at Charlotte (N.C.) Speedway now less than a week away, INEX Asphalt Legend Car Series driver Michael Dabney Jr. will prepare for a stretch of seven weeks of racing that includes 10 races by participating in an open-practice session at the quarter-mile oval Tuesday night.

Dabney Jr., 22 recently competed in a Legend Car Series event at Concord Speedway last month. After initialing finishing second, Dabney Jr. was awarded the victory after the race winner failed to meet series requirements.

Still, Dabney Jr. isn’t focused on the past, he’s set on the future where he hopes to make some noise and put his No. 5 automobile in contention and more importantly in victory lane.

“I’m ready to go,” said a jubilant Dabney Jr. “I’ve been working hard on the car for the past week or so. The engine has been refreshed and I haven’t felt this good about going racing in a while, so I’m just anxious to get to the track and dial in the car for next week.”

While Dabney Jr. admits that the Summer Shootout puts pressure on any young driver, especially since not knowing who is gleaming at their machine and performance from the grandstands or pit road, he won’t do anything that he wouldn’t normally do elsewhere.

“The Summer Shootout is one of the main reasons I made the move from Texas to North Carolina last year,” Dabney Jr. explained. “I’m working hard on my future but I need to keep in the seat and this is a perfect way at doing that. I’m extremely thankful and appreciative for what I have, I’m just hoping I can deliver some results on the track that could spark some more interest.”

Following practice on Tuesday night, Dabney Jr. will catch his breath on Wednesday before making the trip up to Long Pond, Pennsylvania on Thursday to partake in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards activities on Saturday afternoon.

“Thanks to my management team, I have some things cooking in a couple different divisions,” sounded Dabney Jr. “The ARCA Racing Series is a great stepping stone, eventually. I’ll be excited to participating in those races when the timing is right. Right now, it’s just about meeting people, opening doors and keeping my name and face out there.”

Practice begins at 5:00 p.m. and concludes at 9:00 p.m. Tuesday. The first race in the 2011 edition of the Summer Shootout kicks off on Monday, June 13th and will conclude on Tuesday, July 26th.
