NOTEBOOK:

Patrick Sheltra avoided the big one, steered through a numerous of close calls and led two of the final four laps in Friday’s ARCA RE/MAX 250 before being forced to settle for fifth Friday afternoon at Talladega Superspeedway.

Sheltra, in his No. 60 Quality Turf of Okeechobee, Inc.-The Casite Company Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS roared from the back of the pack to find himself in prime position to win his first career ARCA race. Unfortunately, the traditional storyline of Talladega Superspeedway played into effect when the predator turned out to be the prey when two cars locked themselves together and bolted passed the Grace Sheltra owned machine with two laps remaining. Sheltra then find himself in a tight three-car wide battle coming to the stripe allowing the 22-year old to secure his third top-five finish of the 2008 season. The effort was also a career best restrictor plate performance for the Indiantown, Florida native in two prior plate starts.

“ Man. This was a team effort today. Everyone did a great job and I’m psyched for our marketing partners and everyone associated with this Sheltra Motorsports team. We had a good day. We avoided the wrecks, stayed in the draft and had a shot to win the race. I thought we had it but it’s Talladega and it aint’t over till it’s over. Just a great job by everyone and we can take this momentum and finish what we started at Toledo next weekend.”

NEXT UP:

The ARCA RE/MAX Series will travel to their final race of the 2008 season at Toledo Speedway next Sunday, October 12 for the running of the Hantz Group 200 by Belle Tire & Federated Auto Care. Earlier this year, Sheltra finished a career best second in only his third Toledo start. Sheltra is aiming for his third consecutive top-10 finish at the half-mile oval in next weekend’s season finale.
