Chicagoland Speedway Recap: It appeared that Sheltra Motorsports had their eighth top-10 finish in the books last Saturday afternoon at the Chicagoland Speedway. After rebounding from a tough practice, sophomore driver Patrick Sheltra climbed steadily into the top-10 in the early stages of the Chicagoland ARCA 200. A flawless pit stop put the team third on the board but a loose condition would slide the Indiantown, Florida native back before being forced to enter the garage on lap 78 with engine failure. The team was credited with a 31st place finish.

It’s Not Bristol, It’s Not Darlington; It’s Salem!: Holding the characteristics of both Darlington Speedway and Bristol Motor Speedway, Salem Speedway has not only become a fan favorite but a driver favorite on the ARCA RE/MAX Series tour. For the 22-year old Sheltra, he aims to make his fourth start at the half-mile bullring and hoping to better his personal best finish of 11th which came this past Spring.

What’s Up For The Off Week?: There is no such thing as an off-week in Motorsports competition and Sheltra Motorsports continues that trend as the Whitesville, Kentucky team will preparing for a two-day test at Talladega Superspeedway on September 17 and 18th. The team will then return home and focus on their road course machine which is scheduled to test at New Jersey Motorsports Park on Tuesday, September 23 before competing in action on Sunday, September 28th in the Loud Energy Drink 150.

Impressive Stat: With 17 races complete in the 2008 ARCA RE/MAX Series season, Sheltra Motorsports has fielded a car for Patrick Sheltra that has run in the top-10 for all 17 events thus far this season. The team has amassed two top-fives with a runner-up at Toledo Speedway and the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds while holding five additional top-10 finishes. The team’s season best qualifying effort came at Kansas Speedway where Sheltra awarded himself with a career best run of eighth. Sheltra recorded his career best short track qualifying run of eighth at Berlin Raceway in July. The team has led two races at Kansas Speedway and Cayuga Motor Speedway for a total of 15 laps.

Watcha Haulin?: Crew Chief John Hayden has elected to bring Sheltra Motorsports chassis number 4 to Salem Speedway this weekend. The team has yet to run this model in ARCA RE/MAX Series competition this year but the piece is responsible for three top-six finishes in 2007 at Berlin Raceway, the Illinois State Fairgrounds and the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds. Chassis number 7 will serve as the team’s backup automobile. This is the same automobile the team scored a runner-up finish at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds earlier this month. It is also the same automobile the team participated with the Illinois State Fairgrounds on August 17th. This piece also has track time at USA International Speedway, Iowa Speedway , Gateway International Raceway and The Milwaukee Mile last year. The team converted the former Dale Earnhardt, Inc. automobile to a Dodge Charger during the off-season.

Sheltra Motorsports, Salem Speedway Pre-Race Quotes: Patrick Sheltra, driver of the No. 60 J&S Bulk Transport Co., Inc. Chevrolet:

On Chicagoland: “The race did not go as planned. We were able to find some speed from practice in qualifying and I thought we would have an easy top-10 finish in the race but we got snagged again on a mechanical failure. I sure wish we could have given Dodge a victory in our final race with them this year, but we’ll try it again next year.”

On Salem : “It’s Salem time. This place is a lot of fun to race if you have a good car. We had a car capable of winning the race here in the spring and got taken out. We don’t look for that to happen on Saturday night, instead we hope to have everyone chasing us for the win under the Indiana lights.”

On J&S Bulk Transport Co.,: “J&S has done a lot for this team, so it’s really important for me to give them a good run in their special paint scheme Saturday night. This is a big race for them, so hopefully together we can celebrate in victory lane.”

On The Upcoming Talladega Test: “Feeling really good about Talladega . We had a strong speedway car at Daytona and it’s buffed out and ready to go for Talladega next week. You never know what you can expect in restrictor plate racing but we definitely plan on being a factor.”

Sheltra Motorsports, Salem Speedway Pre-Race Quotes: Grace Sheltra, owner of the No. 60 J&S Bulk Transport Co., Inc. Chevrolet:

On Salem : “We’re excited about Salem Speedway this weekend. The more Patrick runs their the better he gets. The boys at the shop continue to give Patrick fast and competitive racecars and we expect the same Saturday night at Salem . It’s the final night race of the year, so it definitely should be exciting.”

On The Cattle Showdown: “What a neat idea! This is a excellent opportunity for members of the ARCA community to unite and help out Focus Motorsports Ministries while voting to see who has the best cattle in the ARCA garage. We hope to leave Salem victorious in more ways than one.”
