Bud Pole Qualifying Notes & Quotes
Thursday, February 14, 2008
Veteran NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series (NCTS) driver Jason White will be one of 36 starters in Friday night’s Chevy Silverado 250. After posting a very impressive fourth in Wednesday’s first practice session, White headed into qualifying with high hopes of delivering a solid run that would enable him a suitable starting position in the first of two restrictor plate events this season.
No problem.
White, a native of Virginia clocked the 27th fastest lap after turning a time of 52.294 seconds at 172.104 MPH. White’s effort awarded him his second career NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series start at the 2.5-mile superspeedway.
White will make his 30th career NCTS start on Friday night behind the wheel of the No. 08 Dodge Ram. It will be his first event under the SS-Racing-Green Light Racing banner carrying sponsorship from GunBroker.com.
White’s teammate Shane Sieg in the No. 07 ASI Limited Chevrolet Silverado qualified 25th.
Here are some notes and quotes from tonight’s session:
JASON WHITE, NO. 08 GUNBROKER.COM DODGE RAM:
WHITE: (HOW WAS YOUR LAP?) “It wasn’t bad. We had an early draw and I don’t think it played much of a difference, but we’ve set up our GunBroker.com Dodge up for the race. A track like Daytona it doesn’t matter where you start, it matters where you finish. We’re just happy to be in the show.”
WHITE: (ON HIS STARTING POSITION – 27TH ) “The good news is that I have my teammate Shane Sieg right in front of me. The plan is for us to stick together and take our trucks to the front. Both of the SS-Racing-Green Light Racing machines are running very strong in Daytona. The team has had some success here in the past and there’s no reason we can’t continue that trend on Friday night.”
WHITE: (ON MAKING HIS SECOND CONSECUTIVE DAYTONA INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY START) “Daytona is the place that every racecar driver dreams of competing at. I’m just happy to be here. I had a good race going last year before being entangled in an accident. This year I have a lot of confidence that Daytona can yield my first career top-10 finish.”
WHITE: (ON PLACING FOURTH IN YESTERDAY’S PRACTICE SESSION) “It just shows everyone that the SS-Racing-Green Light Racing team is ready to race this season. We have good trucks and a good program this year. The support of our sponsor GunBroker.com has been tremendous. I think the performance put us in the spotlight and made us a “sleeper” for Friday night’s race. It’s just a good feeling.”
WHITE: (ON HIS NEW TEAM; SS-RACING-GREEN LIGHT RACING AND SPONSOR GUNBROKER.COM) “This is probably the best opportunity I’ve ever had in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. I have a great team and a fantastic sponsor and they support me 100 percent. We’ve set some goals and there is no doubt in my mind that we’ll complete those goals ahead of schedule. There’s no pressure to qualify because we are locked in the events which allows us to concentrate on our race setups, that’s probably the biggest upside for our race team at this point in 2008.”
WHITE: (ON FRIDAY’S CHEVY SILVERADO 250) “It’s a huge event. Everyone wants to win at Daytona. I’ll be reminding myself though that I can’t win the event in the first 50 laps. You have to be around for the final 25 circuits or so then you can make a charge. Being mistake free is also weighing heavily on my mind for Friday night. And help. It’s so important at Daytona. Drafting partners are everything, so I’m hoping I have plenty of them for Friday night.”
WHITE: (ON THE 2008 NASCAR CRAFTSMAN TRUCK SERIES SEASON) “I have a feeling that this is going to be a good year. This team wants to win and run up front. I have no reservation that we can get the job done on a weekly basis. I just want to thank SS-Racing-Green Light Racing and my sponsor GunBroker.com for their entire support heading into the season opener, it means so much. The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series has the best racing in NASCAR right now in my mind and I’m just proud to be apart of it.”
The Chevy Silverado 250 (100 laps/250 miles) is the first of 25 events on the 2008 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series schedule. The race will be broadcasted live on the SPEED channel beginning at 8:00pm with a pre-race show scheduled for 7:30pm. MRN will handle the airwaves starting at 7:30pm. The race will also be available via Sirius satellite radio channel 128 also launching at 7:30pm. All times are local.
