ROCKINGHAM, North Carolina (April 19, 2009) - - Patrick Sheltra in the No. 60 BuckedUpShirts.com / BuckedUpApparel.com Dodge Charger for Sheltra Motorsports backed up his victory from Salem Speedway with an awesome second place finish in Sunday’s ARCA RE/MAX Carolina 200 at Rockingham Speedway.
Sheltra, in his third year of competition in the ARCA RE/MAX Series (ARS) also for the second straight race led laps enough to push him ahead in the ARCA RE/MAX Series championship standings.
During the event’s 200 laps, Sheltra never fell out of the top-five and utilized a long green flag run during the race’s final 100 circuits to charge back from fifth before negotiating his way back to his starting position of third before being moving into the second position inside the final five markers.
Low on fumes, Sheltra coasted to the start-finish line for his third career runner-up finish in the ARCA RE/MAX Series.
“It was a good day for the BuckedUp racing team,” said Sheltra. “We had a good car, we had to conserve in the second half with tires and fuel and had enough to finish second. I’m happy for the guys and BuckedUp. This is their first taste of Motorsports and I think they enjoyed it. We’ll go to Talladega next weekend and look for another victory.”
With his performance on Sunday, Sheltra unofficially grabbed the ARCA RE/MAX Series points lead heading into the ARCA RE/MAX Series next event at Talladega Superspeedway next Friday afternoon for the running of the ARCA RE/MAX 250. Sheltra advanced from third to first and unofficially holds a five point margin over Parker Klingerman (No. 77).
Sheltra finished fifth at Talladega last year and led one of the two days of pre-race testing at Talladega Superspeedway last week.
Leaving Rockingham, Sheltra has 49 ARCA RE/MAX Series starts to his credit with one career victory at Salem Speedway (April 2009). Sheltra also holds second place efforts at Rockingham Speedway (April 2009), Toledo Speedway (May 2008) and the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds (September 2008) with four additional top-five finishes, (fourth) at Toledo Speedway (October 2008), (fifth) at Talladega Superspeedway (October 2008), (third) at Illinois State Fairgrounds (August 2007) and (fourth) at Berlin Raceway (July 2007) while holding additional top-10s at Nashville Superspeedway (August 2008), Michigan International Speedway (June 2008), Kentucky Speedway (May 2008), Kansas Speedway (April 2008), Iowa Speedway (April 2008), Kentucky Speedway (June 2007), DuQuoin State Fairgrounds (September 2007) and Toledo Speedway (October 2007). A third place qualifying effort at Rockingham Speedway (April 2009) is Sheltra’s best time trials efforts to date. He has controlled the ARCA field five times for 109 laps.
In addition to running a full ARCA RE/MAX Series schedule this year, Sheltra will also run a limited dirt schedule and also plans to run selected NASCAR Nationwide Series events with his Whitesville, Kentucky based Sheltra Motorsports team.
