Rising Rookie: In her first full season of stock car competition, Canadian Sarah Cornett-Ching has quickly become a series contender in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards, making her a fan favorite for Sunday afternoon’s Herr’s Chase The Taste 200.
Last Time Out: Last Saturday afternoon at Chicagoland Speedway, the 24-year-old achieved her fourth top-10 finish this season in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards. Making her intermediate track debut, Cornett-Ching qualified a career-best 10th and despite starting the race at the rear of the field, the freshman showed finesse and climbed her way back to an eighth place finish. The effort matches her career-best run netted at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway in May.
Announcement On The Horizon: Next week, Sarah Cornett-Ching and RACE 101 will make an announcement concerning the advancement of her stock-car career. Stay tuned to her Twitter @scornettching for the official announcement of her growing racing resume.
Indiana’s Fastest ½ Mile Oval Debut: This weekend, the RACE 101 driver will make her ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards debut at the historic short track, dubbed the “World’s Fastest ½ Mile” in western Indiana. Cornett-Ching will make her second start in the “Hoosier State” this weekend, also competing at a similar track, Salem (Ind.) Speedway in April. There, she qualified and finished a respectable 12th in the Federated Auto Parts 200.
Where Is She?: After 10 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards races, Sarah Cornett-Ching sits sixth in the championship standings with a 45-point cushion over seventh place. Thus far, Cornett-Ching maintains an average starting position of 15th and an average finish of 14th entering the 11th race of the season.
Not Just A Racer: Before turning her concentration to a full-time driver career, the Summerland, British Columbia native was a certified welder by trade in her home country of Canada. In fact, Cornett-Ching hones her skill at the teams Denver, North Carolina on occasion. She has also served as a welding tutor for members of her RACE 101 team.
Chassis Intel: Tony Blanchard has elected to bring RACE 101 chassis number 190 to the 0.5-mile track this weekend. This Chevrolet is appearing in its fifth race with RACE 101. This race chassis last competed in the ARCA Racing Series event at Toledo Speedway in May. This particular race car has three top-15 finishes in four races. The team will utilize chassis number 325 as a backup car, the same automobile that Cornett-Ching raced with at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway earlier this month.
Meet Sarah Cornett-Ching: In addition to making an appearance at the Light House restaurant in Winchester, Indiana on Friday night from 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Cornett-Ching will also meet and greet with fans during the on-track autograph session Sunday from 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Winchester (Ind.) Speedway.
RACE 101 Motorsports, Winchester (Ind.) Speedway Pre-Race Quotes: Sarah Cornett-Ching, driver of the No. 2 RACE 101 Chevrolet:
On Chicagoland Speedway: “I’m really proud of this RACE 101 team. I felt we made huge strides at Chicagoland Speedway. For my first mile-and-a-half track, I think we were really happy with the results. The car was extremely fast when we unloaded. As the weekend went on, our times improved. I qualified 10th and even though I had to start at the rear, the car was strong enough that we fought back to another top-10 finish. It has me looking forward to Winchester.”
On Winchester Speedway Debut: “Much like I’ve had to endure for most of the season, I’m going to a track I’ve never been too before. I feel like Tony (Blanchard) and the team have a baseline setup for where we want to start and we can adjust from there. I’ve heard a lot about Winchester, so I’m looking forward to experiencing it for myself.”
On Goals For Herr’s Chase The Taste 200 At Winchester Speedway: “Just past the halfway point, we’ve been able to put together four top-10 finishes, including three in the last four races. That’s a huge accomplishment for our team. We still have work to do though. Eventually, we’d like to turn those top-10 runs into top-fives. If we mind our manners and race the racetrack on Sunday, I think our chances of finishing strong again is realistic.”
On Upcoming Announcement: “I’m excited. I can’t give too much away at this point, but things are going in the right direction for me and this RACE 101 team. This announcement we’ll make next week will open up a path that will allow great things to happen for our team down the road. I appreciate everyone’s support.”
RACE 101 Motorsports, Winchester (Ind.) Speedway Pre-Race Quotes: Tony Blanchard, driver coach, mentor and owner of the No. 2 RACE 101 Chevrolet:
On Sarah Cornett Ching’s Fourth Top-10 Finish At Chicagoland Speedway: “Sarah is really proving her worth on the race track. Not only is she earning the respect of her fellow peers on the track, but she is showing she has speed and finesse. We’re just past the halfway point of the season and I feel like the best is yet to come. We’re chasing a record for Sarah and with a lot of passion, motivation and some luck, we should have a shot.”
On Outlook For Winchester Speedway: “Anyone that’s been to Winchester Speedway knows it’s a very demanding track. I think Sarah will adapt fine, like she did at Salem in April. In fact, I think what she learned there will help her on Sunday at Winchester and we can break the mark of setting another career best finish in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards.”
