“Sheltra Motorsports Forms Alliance With Jay Robinson Racing”
WHITESVILLE, Kentucky (October 28, 2008) - - Sheltra Motorsports announced today that the Whitesville, Kentucky based team will get a jump-start on their anticipated seven race NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) schedule next year by competing in the final two NNS events of the season at Phoenix International Raceway (PIR) and Homestead-Miami Speedway (HMS) with Indiantown, Florida native and rising star Patrick Sheltra at the controls.
Additionally, officials from Sheltra Motorsports confirmed that the team has formed an alliance with longtime NASCAR Nationwide Series team Jay Robinson Racing and will utilize the No. 4 for the final two events on the NNS calendar. Jay Robinson Racing (JRR) will assist Sheltra Motorsports in their transition to NASCAR. The alliance also guarantees Sheltra a starting berth for the Hefty Odor Block 200 and the Ford 300.
“We are very excited about our newest challenge and joining the NASCAR Nationwide Series,” said Sheltra Motorsports team representative Grace Sheltra. “We are looking forward to Phoenix and Homestead while hoping to continue to show the strength, integrity and professionalism that Sheltra Motorsports has been accustomed to in our two seasons of competition in the ARCA RE/MAX Series. We are also extremely grateful and indebted to Jay Robinson Racing for their help to put Sheltra Motorsports on the track. We are looking forward to solid and strong runs in our first taste of Nationwide racing.”
Sheltra Motorsports in alliance with Jay Robinson Racing will unload Dodge Chargers for both Phoenix and Homestead . During the course of their 2008 ARCA RE/MAX Series season, Sheltra Motorsports ran a mixture of Dodge Chargers and Chevrolet Monte Carlos with the Dodge program rewarding Sheltra with a career-best effort of second on the dirt at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds this past September. A Dodge Charger was also responsible for blasting Sheltra into his first laps led in ARCA competition earlier this year at Kansas Speedway.
“I’m looking forward to making my NASCAR Nationwide Series debut at Phoenix ,” said 22-year old Patrick Sheltra. “This is a huge opportunity not only for myself but for our team to prove that we can compete at this level. We’re thrilled about the equipment we’ve obtained and our alliance with Jay Robinson Racing. Our goal in both races is to practice and qualify strong and complete all the laps while taking the checkered flag in the top-20. If we can do that, we can build on this program and look for bigger results next year.”
Sheltra, who finished sixth in the 2008 ARCA RE/MAX Series championship standings added, “We’ll be back in the ARCA RE/MAX Series full-time next year but we’ll also dabble in up to seven Nationwide events next year as well. We’re going to use those races to learn the different tracks, familiarize ourselves more with the cars and prepare us for a hopeful full-season championship effort in 2010. The future is bright for Sheltra Motorsports and we’re anxious to get the ball rolling next week.”
Sheltra has one prior start in NASCAR occurring in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series (NCTS) last October at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
The team has secured marketing partners for both events and will make that official announcement next week.
