In her first full season of stock car competition, Canadian Sarah Cornett-Ching has quickly become a series contender in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards, making her a fan favorite for Friday night’s #ThisIsMySpeedway150.
Last Time Out:
In her Winchester (Ind.) Speedway two weeks ago, the 24-year old achieved her fifth top-10 finish this season in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards. Making her Winchester debut, Cornett-Ching started 10th after qualifying was rained out. Despite limited laps around the fast short track, Cornett-Ching persevered and scored a ninth place finish in the Herr’s Chase The Taste 200.
Downtime Spent Wisely:
While the ARCA Racing Series enjoyed a brief sabbatical from competition, Cornett-Ching competed in her second NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race of the season at Columbus Motor Speedway. Additionally, she tested the Race 101 super late model in adverse weather conditions prepping her for the intense summer stretch of ARCA competition.
Another New Track:
For the 12th different time this season, Cornett-Ching will compete at a new track as she soldiers through her freshman season of ARCA Racing Series competition. Iowa Speedway marks the sixth new short track for the RACE 101 driver in 2015.
Where Is She?:
After 11 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards races, Sarah Cornett-Ching sits sixth in the championship standings with a 85-point cushion over seventh place. Thus far, Cornett-Ching maintains an average starting position of 14.8 and an average finish of 14th entering the 12th race of the season.
While Cornett-Ching and her Tony Blanchard led team are chasing a record to become the highest finishing female in championship points, she’s also chasing a Rookie of the Year title, she currently stands second overall. In the championship effort, Cornett-Ching sits sixth overall, which ties Shawna Robinson as the highest finishing position to date for a full-time female competitor.
Not Just A Racer:
Before turning her concentration to a full-time driving career, the Summerland, British Columbia native was a certified welder by trade in her home country of Canada. In fact, Cornett-Ching hones her skill at the teams Denver, North Carolina on occasion. She has also served as a welding tutor for members of her RACE 101 team.

Tony Blanchard has elected to bring RACE 101 chassis number 323 to the 0.875-mile track this weekend. This Chevrolet is appearing in its second race with RACE 101. This race chassis last competed in the ARCA Racing Series event at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway in June. This particular race car has one top-20 in as many events. The team will utilize chassis number 352 as a backup car, the same automobile that Cornett-Ching raced with at Michigan International Speedway and Chicagoland Speedway last month.
RACE 101 Motorsports, Iowa Speedway, Pre-Race Quotes: Sarah Cornett-Ching, driver of the No. 2 RACE 101 Chevrolet:
On Winchester Speedway Finish:
“We were pleased with the finish, although not completely satisfied. With the limited practice, we didn’t have a whole lot of time to adjust our No. 2 RACE 101 Chevrolet, so when we started 10th, we really fought to find the right balance with the car, but came up a little bit short. Still, another top-10 was great. We learned a lot and gained some ground in points.”
On Iowa Speedway Debut:
“Well, this is the 12th different track I’ve raced on, so I’m excited to add another track to my resume. I’ve heard a lot about Iowa Speedway and I’m looking forward to experiencing it firsthand on Friday. I’ll have a veteran spotter, Frank Kimmel II in the spotter’s stand for the race, so I’m looking forward to another positive weekend.”
On Goals For #ThisIsMySpeedway150 At Iowa Speedway:
“We’re very proud of our efforts thus far this year, but we’re hoping that we can starting turning our top-10 finishes into top-five runs. We know it will come with time and experience. Iowa would be a great place to do that. We’re just past halfway in the season, so every point is crucial. We just need to stay on our game and let everything else fall into place.”
On Chasing An ARCA Record:
“Well, it’s not going to be easy to capture fifth in points, but we’re going to give it our all. There’s still plenty of racing left and if we stay consistent a bad race or two for our competitors could put us in a great position, if we stay focused and keep up the good finishes, we will set a new record this year.”
RACE 101 Motorsports, Iowa Speedway Pre-Race Quotes: Tony Blanchard, driver coach, mentor and owner of the No. 2 RACE 101 Chevrolet:
On Sarah Cornett Ching’s Fifth Top-10 Finish At Winchester Speedway:
“Sarah did a great job given all the circumstances with the rain and limited practice at Winchester. We didn’t get the handling where she wanted it, but she adapted well with the race pace and weather conditions and mounted her fifth top-10 finish of the year. She’s making huge strides and everyone at RACE 101 is very proud of her.”
On Outlook For Iowa Speedway:
“Nobody puts more pressure on Sarah then herself. She’s looking forward to Iowa, not only because it’s another new track, but because it’s an opportunity for her as well. We’d all be happy with a top-10 finish, but this team realizes we’re ready to start running in the top-five. We think the small changes we’ve made internally during the downtime will aid us in those efforts.”
