Now that Porsche are part of the Volkswagen Group they have access to the forthcoming Mimo platform. Mimo is derived from Mittelmotor - German for central motor. The Mimo platform will be used for a future Audi R8 and Lamborghini Gallardo, a possible realisation of the Volkswagen BlueSport concept and the Porsche 960 - a mid-engined sportscar that will sit between the 911 and 918 in terms of performance and price.
The 960 is rumoured to feature four wheel drive and an eight cylinder boxer engine. Given that it will be aimed squarely at the McLaren 12c and Ferrari 458, expect something in the order of 600bhp and a price of around £180,000. Little else is known about the Porsche 960 other than it won't be seen in the fleisch until at least 2014.
