Audi have pulled back the curtain on the new A4, looking to shake up the compact-exec class with fierce competition like the BMW 3 Series. It may look like a mid-cycle facelift but the new A4 is actually a completely new car; with Audi focusing on refinement, efficiency gains and new technology resulting in improved fuel economy by 21 percent while upping power by 25 percent.

Improvements are aided by the A4’s new front-wheel drive MLB Evo platform that helps lose 120kg in weight while adding 21mm to the length and 12mm to the wheelbase compared to the outgoing saloon.

With the exterior remaining classically understated, the majority of design changes have happened on the inside with new technology the focus. The revolutionary 12.3 inch virtual cockpit first seen in the TT is an option, allowing the driver to customise their cockpit with either a full screen sat-nav or conventional dials. New seats, steering wheel and central tablet display have been implemented and a 3D sound system, matrix LED headlights and Apple CarPlay are all optional features.

Efficiency improvements are helped by seven all new or heavily revised engines. Four TDI diesel and three TFSI petrol engines providing between 148bhp and 272bhp. A class leading 95g/km of CO2 and 74.3mpg is returned by the 148bhp 2.0 litre TDI Ultra engine, this is reduced to 99g/km of CO2 and 70.6mpg in the Avant. A six-speed manual gearbox is standard with a new seven-speed S-tronic available as an option.Stable Vehicle COntracts

Audi are looking to the future with the new A4 with a range of autonomous driving technology being added. A new traffic-jam assist system will help during slow-moving traffic at up to speeds of 40mph and at speeds of up to 8mph it allows for hands free driving. The piloted driving technology even helps with efficiency in the shape of an advanced adaptive cruise control, which uses navigation to alter the car’s speed in order to maximise fuel economy, making the car up to 10 percent more fuel-efficient.

Audi look to shake up the compact exec market thanks to innovation in every aspect of the new Audi A4. Available for delivery from late October-November, register your interest with Stable Vehicle Contracts, a leading Audi lease supplier.
