New Booklet Issued by the New York Electric Motor Vehicle Dealers' Association.
From the New York Electric Motor Vehicle Association.
The new electric automobile charging station booklet, published by the New York Electric Vehicle Association, Irving Place and Fifteenth Street, is just out. It contains a complete list of all charging stations in New York City and within a radius of a hundred miles from City Hall, together with the maximum amperage and voltage available, the hours during which service is available, and the prices charged for boosting at all of the stations listed. There are two route maps, one of New York City and the other of suburban runs, with the charging stations shown. There is an interesting and instructive chapter on auxiliary charging or "boosting," with a table of constant current boosting rates.
Perhaps the most notable feature of the booklet is the story it tells of the constantly decreasing price of electricity for battery charges. Year by year the trend has been constantly downward until at the present time the maximum rate of the New York Edison Company is 5 cents a kilowatt hour, which tapers down to a cent a kilowatt hour according to the amount of current used. The Electric Garage, established about a year ago by the New York Electric Vehicle Association at Sixty-second Street and Central Park West, maintains passenger electric automobiles at a flat rate of $40 a month including storing, cleaning, washing, polishing, and charging with an unlimited amount of current.
Typical garage rates in New York City for commercial electric automobiles range from $45 a month for a 1,000-lb. car to $60 a month for a five-ton truck. This economic advantage is one of the strongest reasons why the future of the electric vehicle looks brighter than ever—particularly when it is considered that the cost of fuel for other types of motor trucks has advanced from 14 to 31 cents a gallon.
