CHARLOTTE, N.C.—The National Assn. for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) plans to institute several changes in its scoring system for the third annual National 400 late model race at Charlotte Speedway on Sunday, Oct. 14.
NASCAR Executive Manager Pat Purcell and Chief Scorer Joe Epton yesterday advised Charlotte officials of the changes. They include:
1. Establishing communications from the pit stop record check points to the scoring stand, thus allowing scorecards to be checked against pit stop records during the course of the race rather than after the event is completed; 2. Use of personnel in the scoring stand to receive pit stop information plus additional personnel to audit scorecards and pit stop records during the race; and, 3. Probable use of three scorers for each race car instead of the present two.
