MOORESVILLE, North Carolina (February 4, 2016) – Officials from Mooresville, North Carolina-based Young’s Motorsports announced today the expansion of their operations to now include a NASCAR K&N Pro Series East (NKPSE) team set to debut in the season-opening event at New Smyrna (Fla.) Speedway on February 14.
19-year-old Reid Wilson will pilot the No. 66 Young’s Motorsports Chevrolet SS for a minimum of five events this season adorning a partnership with the Muscular Dystrophy Association for his inaugural NKNPSE debut in the Jet Tools 150 at New Smyrna.
Young’s Motorsports has selected Andrew Abbott to oversee the K&N division and serve as crew chief for Wilson’s No. 66 Chevrolet this season.
“This is a great opportunity for Young’s Motorsports,” said team principal Tyler Young. “We started throwing the idea around last year of entering the K&N Pro Series, and during the off-season everything aligned and we’re enthusiastic heading to New Smyrna.
“I’ve heard a lot about Reid, especially during my career in the Pro Cup Series. I didn’t have many opportunities to race against him, but I kept my eye on him. Reid has no problem adapting to speed and new surroundings. I believe he’ll take to these K&N cars well and we can go to New Smyrna and have a good run.”
Wilson enters the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East after a stint in what was formally known as the Pro Cup Series, where in 20 races, the Huntersville, North Carolina native produced one pole, seven top-fives and 17 top-10 results. In a two-year stint, Wilson earned a career-best finish of second at Tri-County (N.C.) Speedway in 2014.
Before advancing to the Pro Cup Series, Wilson was a frequent competitor in the INEX sanctioned U.S. Legends International Bandoleros. From there his path expanded to Legends Cars where he enjoyed immediate success. In 2011, Wilson began his Late Model Racing career competing in the Carolina Competition Sports (CCS) inaugural Limited Sportsman Touring Series, where he was crowned champion.
With all that success behind him, Wilson readies his biggest challenge yet, but is eager to begin this next chapter of his racing career with Young’s Motorsports.
“This is an unbelievable opportunity for me,” said Wilson. “We’ve been waiting a while for the right situation to take my career to the next level and without hesitation, I believe Young’s Motorsports can help me do that. Tyler (Young) and the guys have been more than welcoming and I’m fired up to see what kind of results we can produce together.
“Without the help of my family and my mentor Mike Herman Sr. to help me develop as a driver and a professional, I wouldn’t have this chance with Young’s Motorsports and I’m thankful for that.”
Expecting a star-studded field down in central Florida next Sunday night, Young says his team has done their homework to make sure they can debut their K&N Pro Series East program as competitive as possible.
“It’s important for us just like we do with our NASCAR Camping World Truck Series to come to the track as competitive as possible. While this is sort of new territory for us in the K&N Pro Series East, I know we have the right people and driver to come out swinging and have a shot at a strong finish.”
Additional marketing partnership for Young’s Motorsports NASCAR K&N Pro Series East program is forthcoming, as well as details on the team’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series operation.
