HOUSTON, Texas (April 14, 2016) - - With a wet forecast predicted for Five Flags (Fla.) Speedway this weekend, Zach Knowles and his Zach Knowles Motorsports (ZKM) team have made the decision to forgo their first trip to the Sunshine State this season.

Knowles aboard his No. 51 Grant Sheet Metal Ford Fusion was looking forward to participating in the Allen Turner Pro Late Models Twins 50s on Friday night, but with a gloomy forecast predicted, the team opted to stay in the Lone Star state and focus on returning to Central Texas Speedway (CTS) next weekend.

“It’s a big bummer that we’re not going to Five Flags this weekend,” offered Knowles. “We’ve been monitoring the weather very heavily this week and no matter what forecast models we look at; they all nearly say the same thing. In the best interest of our race team and sponsors, we’ve opted to sit this one out and focus on that championship run at Central Texas Speedway.”

Speaking of CTS, Knowles opened up his 2016 season from the immensely popular short track on Mar. 19 with gratifying results. Despite a transponder issue, Knowles qualified third and then landed third when the top-five qualifiers were inverted.

Knowles was impressive during the race, quickly jumping to the second at the start, but getting spun out twice during the event would force the upcoming driver to play catch up. Utilizing the remaining laps available, Knowles despite some hard fought battles was able to finish third and maintain a good outlook on the overall track championship this season.

“It was really hard racing for our first night at CTS,” Knowles recalled. “You can’t really be mad at anyone, that’s just racing and how it goes. I got spun out twice, the first one from being sandwiched and the second after the leader was losing his brakes and got into the corner too hot. No worries, we were able to bounce back and have a good solid opener for Grant Sheet Metal and all of our partners at ZKM.”

With nearly a one-month break from competition at CTS, Knowles describes how his team has stepped up to the plate and working hard to make sure their car is capable of capturing its first win of the season when action resumes on Saturday, Apr. 23.

“Several breaks in the schedule allow us to fine-tune our car and look at ways of making sure we can go to the race track and be better than we were the last time we were there. I can’t say enough about the guys and gals who put an endless effort into making sure ZKM goes. We’re confident that the changes we made from the last race will pay huge dividends next weekend and the rest of the season.”

While Knowles has been nose-deep in his full-time executive position at REDCO, Knowles is also well aware that his name continues to surface in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series garages, especially after receiving his clearance to compete at select tracks on a national platform.

“It’s still our goal by seasons’ end to hit up a national series NASCAR event,” added Knowles. “We have some sponsorship and we have a number of people who are working hard trying to make magic happen on the outside. We know what we’re looking to do and the achievable goals we want to set. Hopefully, I can get to another race, maybe Kansas Speedway in May to network a little more.”

In addition to Grant Sheet Metal, ZKM is proud to welcome the support of Reynolds company, Wholesale Electric, Taylor Lightning Protection, Material Express Inc., Midwest Electric, REDCO Tool and Fastener, Frio Acres and HD Supply as associate partners this season.
