BCR Racing Approaches Chicagoland Test With Optimism

HOLLY, Michigan (August 18, 2009) - - Fresh off a solid top-15 finish in their most recent ARCA RE/MAX Series (ARS) event at Kentucky Speedway, BCR Racing has been hard at it looking to keep the team headed in the right direction leading up to Wednesday’s open test session at Chicagoland Speedway.

From the test, the team plans to participate in the Ansell Cut Protection 150, their fourth race of the season.

And if the noteworthy effort at Kentucky Speedway wasn’t influential enough to keep the team rocking – the announcement of a new sponsor for the No. 74 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS gives the team the extra boost towards notching their first top-10 finish.

Austin Powder will take the reins as one of the leading sponsors of the BCR team while also entering its first foray into the ARCA RE/MAX Series and stock car racing.

Based in Cleveland, Ohio, Austin Powder is the second oldest manufacturing company in the Buckeye state. Today, the company manufacturers a full line of industrial explosives and accessories, and provide blasting services to customers throughout North America and around the world.

“I’m definitely pumped about the Chicago test and especially the new partnership with Austin Powder,” said J.R. Heffner, a 2007 and 2008 Modified Champion. “Kentucky was a great race for the team and a step in the right direction for my path in stock car racing. We’re not going to be overconfident though. We know we need to go to Chicagoland this week and be better than we were at Kentucky. Howard (Bixman, car owner) and the BCR team have been plugging along and I think we’ll have a few surprises for everyone.”

The trip to the Joliet 1.5-mile oval will be a first for the Pittsfield, Massachusetts native. Shining into the spotlight with a sixth place career-best qualifying run at Kentucky in July, Heffner has a good vibe about his next challenge.

“The car we obtained from Dale Earnhardt, Inc. is a intermediate piece,” Heffner added. “A good car with great horsepower and the endless efforts of a hard working team like BCR will further propel this team to the front."

For Bixman, he is happy about the direction of the BCR team and Heffner’s development behind the wheel.

“This is a great operation,” said Bixman, who also holds the role as crew chief and driving coach for Heffner. “We’ve worked hard on the car since Kentucky and I think with the tweaks we’ve made, we should unload with a stronger car this week at Chicagoland.”

Bixman, a former ARCA driver himself continued, “the improvement in J.R. has been excellent. His focus and determination is not only showing on the track but off the track as well. We’re welcoming a new sponsor to the team for Chicagoland, so we’re all hoping for a similar performance of Kentucky but the end the night with a top-five finish.”

Following Chicagoland, JR plans to end he's season with BCR in style at Kansas Speedway for the Kansas Lottery 150 set for October 1st.
