Peak oil is the point in time when the maximum rate of global petroleum extraction is reached, after which the rate of production enters terminal decline. Scientists vary in opinions on when the actual occurrence would be.
Optimistic estimations of peak production forecast the global decline will begin by 2020 or later. Pessimistic predictions of future oil production operate on the thesis that either the peak has already occurred, we are on the cusp of the peak, or that it will occur shortly.
Transportation is the largest consumption and demand of energy from oil. Of all the pollutants and green house gases released into the atmosphere, transport accounts for 25 percent worldwide. Each year, in assess of 10 billion tones of CO2 are emitted into the earth atmosphere. 5 percent per gallon mileage improvement will translate to 17 tons greenhouse gases emission prevention over the lifetime of your vehicle.
We stand at a crossroads where a decision could affect for not just ourselves but for the entire planet.
There is a powerful, affordable, greener and cleaner alternative; It is a tried, tested and proven technology, and the energy source is available in your own home's electricity.
There are 825 million vehicles worldwide today. With 75 million new vehicles per year for replacement and growth, it will take at least 10 years to replace the existing internal combustion engine fleet. This is provided the entire automotive industry united under one cause. Some scientists already proclaimed 10, 20 and some say 50 years, the world will reach an irreversible point should the current CO2 emission continues.
The practicality and feasibilities of electric vehicles are real. There were more electric cars on the road at the turn of 19 century. 1990 California zero emissions vehicle (ZEV) mandate resulted 4400 electric vehicles on the road starting 2000. There are still currently about 1400 electric vehicles on the road in California. All large-scale productions of Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) from the industry peers are scheduled for 2010 / 2011.
It is a vision to accelerate the supply for electric cars for an existing mammoth market demand by raising public awareness of the technology that already exists, its accessibility and giving consumers the choice to buy what we know to be part of the solution to our environmental crisis.
