Premat Drives to Victory in 51st Macau Grand Prix

VOA Sports
November 21, 2004

Frenchman Alexandre Premat has driven his Dallara Mercedes-HWA to victory in the 51st Macau Grand Prix, after a series of accidents forced an early end to the Formula Three race.

Premat withstood a challenge from Poland's Robert Kubica Sunday to complete 11 laps of the 6.2-kilometer Guia street circuit in 37 minutes and 13.731 seconds. Kubica also drove a Dallara Mercedes-Hwa and came second, less than one second back (37:14.406). Brazilian Lucas Di Grassi was third (37:14.909) in a Dallara Renault-Sodemo.

The 15-lap race was stopped after 13 laps following a number of accidents, although no serious injuries were reported. The results were based on 11 laps completed.

The event attained Formula Three status in 1983 when the late Ayrton Senna came in first. Formula One champion Michael Schumacher and his brother Ralf also were past winners in Macau.
