SPARTA, Kentucky (May 5, 2009) - - After a solid 12th place performance in the most recent ARCA RE/MAX Series event at Talladega Superspeedway, Stuart Florida native Bryan Silas has slowly emerged as a championship contender. Silas will continue his uphill climb as the series invades Kentucky Speedway for the running of Saturday night’s Drive Smart! Buckle-Up Kentucky 150.

With an average finish of 12th after four events in 2009, Silas, the third year ARCA competitor is hoping to improve that statistic by catapulting to his first career win in the fifth race of the year.

And should Silas propel his way to victory lane it will be a long time coming accomplishment for the 22-year old driver. In four prior starts at the 1.5-mile speedway, Silas has mounted a best finish of eighth twice, back-to-back in 2007 and 2008. While eighth is okay to some, it’s not enough for the Fast Track Racing team as they have set their expectations higher for the year.

“I’m feeling more confident about our mile-and-half program this year,” said Silas, who sits fourth in the ARCA RE/MAX Series standings. “Kentucky is a track I would love to get my first victory at and believe me we’re going there to do just that.”

Silas continued, “I’m really pleased and proud of my guys on the Fast Track Racing team for their hard work this year. It’s still early in the game but the determination from this bunch has been overwhelming. We had a rocky start at Daytona, but since Salem this team has shifted into high gear and we’re definitely using the momentum to our advantage.”

The ARCA RE/MAX Series held an open-test at the Sparta, Kentucky based track last week and while it was the intent for the Fast Track Racing team to participate in the eight-hour session, the team at the last minute decided to withdraw from the event expecting inclimate weather. While it might not have been the right decision at the moment, the team is convinced they won’t miss a beat.

“I was actually on my way to the track when I received the call that we canceled testing,” recalled Silas. “While I feel we could have used the track time, I know what has worked for our team at Kentucky and Cal (Boprey, crew chief) definitely knows how to setup a racecar at an intermediate track, so I’m not worried a bit.”

In addition to four ARCA RE/MAX Series starts at Kentucky Speedway, Silas also has one start in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series occurring in 2007 in his third career NCWTS start and acknowledged his second best finish of 25th. That finish is only preceded by Silas’s 16th place effort at Daytona International Speedway in February.

Nason, Yeager, Gerson, White & Lioce P.A., Holland Pump, Oasis Outsourcing, Palm Beach Grading (PBG) and Rockingham Speedway will all sponsor Silas’s machine for his 54th career ARCA start this weekend.

The Drive Smart! Buckle-Up Kentucky 150 (100 laps / 150 miles) is the fifth of 22 events on the 2009 ARCA RE/MAX Series schedule. The 18th ever ARCA race at Kentucky Speedway is a one-day show. Practice begins Saturday, May 9 with a two hour practice session planned from 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. Menards Pole by Ansell qualifying is set for later in the day slated to begin at 4:00 p.m. The event will take the green flag that evening shortly after 8:00 p.m. The event will not be televised but the race will be broadcasted live through the ARCA Racing Network (ARN) online at arcaracing.com. All times are local.
