Bryan Silas Looks For Strong Run At Rockingham

ROCKINGHAM, North Carolina (April 14, 2009) - - After securing his first top-10 finish of the season at Salem Speedway on April 5, third-year ARCA RE/MAX Series driver Bryan Silas now shifts his focus to Rockingham Speedway this weekend looking to continue his climb in the point standings while also searching for career win number one in the ARCA RE/MAX Carolina 200.

And if there’s a track on the 2009 ARCA RE/MAX Series schedule where Silas has the best potential to become a first-time winner, Rockingham Speedway might just be the place.

Car owner and mentor Andy Hillenburg is President of Rockingham Speedway, otherwise known as “North Carolina Motor Speedway” in its NASCAR era days. Since taking the role as President in late 2007, Silas has become one of the track’s most familiar drivers.

The amount of laps Silas has steered at the one-mile facility should payoff in the third race of the season Sunday afternoon.

“I’m confident our Fast Track Racing team is going to be a factor this weekend at Rockingham,” said Silas. “As a team we’ve been preparing for this race since January, so I’m glad to finally see the event on deck and we’re ready to deliver a good run.”

Still feeling refreshed after his eighth place run at Salem Speedway, the Stuart, Florida native knows that building momentum early on in the ARCA season could be the extra boost he needs to propel himself towards victory lane.

“It’s always good to grab a top-10 finish in ARCA,” sounded Silas. “We had a really fast car at Salem. I got myself in a little bit of trouble near half-way which changed the handling of our car dramatically. Still, no one on the Fast Track Racing team gave up and we pulled together for our first solid run of the year. We need to build on that this weekend at “The Rock.”

Locking ninth in the championship points, Silas also knows that a good run on Sunday will keep his title hopes alive.

“Last year at Rockingham, we didn't deliver a good run. This year the race is much shorter so our strategies will change. Still, you have to pick and choose your battles and be around for the final 50 laps. The championship is our long-term goal, so keeping ourselves in the spotlight will keep our chances alive."

Silas, who also continues a healthy presence in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series added, “The great communication between myself and my crew chief Cal (Boprey) will allow us to keep up with the changes of the track. I’m definitely more excited about Rockingham this year.”

Nason, Yeager, Gerson, White & Lioce P.A., Holland Pump, Oasis, Palm Beach Grading (PBG) and Rockingham Speedway will all sponsor Silas’s machine for his 52nd career ARCA start this weekend.

The ARCA RE/MAX Carolina 200 (200 laps / 200 miles) is the third of 22 events on the 2009 ARCA RE/MAX Series schedule. The third ever ARCA race at Rockingham Speedway is a two-day show. Practice begins Saturday, April 18 with an hour and a half practice session planned from 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Menards Pole by Ansell qualifying is set for later in the day slated to begin at 2:30 p.m. The event will take the green flag on Sunday, April 19 shortly after 1:00 p.m. The race will be televised live on SPEED with additional live broadcasting available through the ARCA Racing Network (ARN) online at arcaracing.com.
