CECIL, Georgia (March 26, 2008) - - After earning a hard-fought top-20 finish in the 2008 USAR Hooter’s Pro Cup Series opener at USA International Speedway two weeks ago, Stuart, Florida driver Bryan Silas returns to the circuit looking to seal the deal in Saturday’s BFGoodrichTires.com 200 from South Georgia Motorsports Park (SGMP) with a top-10 effort.
Teaming back up with WJ Plemmons Motorsports for the second event of the season, Silas is ready to be in contention.
“I’m feeling confident heading into the race this weekend,” said Silas, who split his time between the two USAR events participating in an open test at Rockingham Speedway in his No. 11 ARCA RE/MAX Series machine.
“ Lakeland was tough; we got behind early, but luckily, we were able to bounce back and score a solid finish. I’m proud of everyone on the WJ Plemmons Motorsports team for their never give up attitude. We’re ready to make up for what we lost at Lakeland .”
Aiming towards making his sixth career USAR Hooter’s Pro Cup start, Silas is hoping to utilize the experience he acquired at South Georgia Motorsports Park last year to aid him towards a career best finish Saturday night.
“Last year we finished 23rd after starting 35th,” explained Silas. “It wasn’t a bad night, but I’m raising the bar for myself this weekend. I have a great team and great sponsors, I’m just going to make sure I’m entirely focused this weekend while also praying we’ll have a little luck on our side.”
He continued, “It’s really a blast competing in the USAR Hooter’s Pro Cup Series. I believe I’ve become a better short track driver because of the seat time I’ve gained here. It’s important for any driver to get seat time, but the competitiveness of the series definitely puts you on your game. Hopefully this weekend will continue to prove that trend.”
For the second consecutive event, Dave McClure, who served as crew chief on Silas’s ARCA program last year will call the shots Saturday.
“The communication is solid,” Silas noted. “We made great strides following Lakeland and I believe that Dave knows what I want in my USAR Hooter’s Pro Cup car and I’m hoping that us being on the same page will equal results.”
Palm Beach Grading (PBG) and Rockingham Speedway will hold share title sponsorship of Silas’s Ford Fusion in the BFGoodrichTires.com 200.
WJ Plemmons Motorsports will announce their remaining USAR Hooter's Pro Cup schedule with Bryan Silas following South Georgia Motorsports Park (SGMP).
Exiting Georgia , Silas will again refocus on his ARCA RE/MAX Series (No. 11 Nortrax-Shell Rotella T Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS) program with a private-test at Salem Speedway in preparation for the second event of the season at Salem Speedway for the Kentuckiana Ford Dealers 200 presented by Federated Auto Parts on Sunday April 13, 2008.
The BFGoodrichTires.com is the second of eight events on the 2008 USAR Hooter’s Pro Cup South Division schedule. Practice begins Saturday March 29 from 11:30am-1:30pm. Awesome Awnings Pole Qualifying is slated to begin at 4:30pm. The green flag is scheduled to fly shortly after 7:00pm. All times are local. USARprocup.com will provide live timing and scoring for this weekend’s festivities.
