SALEM, Indiana (September 12, 2007) - - ARCA RE/MAX Series (ARS) rookie Bryan Silas had paid his dues. It’s been seven races since Silas has delivered a top-10 finish in ARCA competition and for Silas, that’s six races too long.
The good news for Silas and his Fast Track Racing team is the series returns to Salem Speedway for Saturday’s running of the Eddie Gilstrap Motors ARCA Fall Classic by Advance Auto Parts.
In his first ever Salem debut, Silas impressed many like he’s done all season long. After practicing mid pack and qualifying deep in the field, Silas used patience and guidance to net his second top-10 finish of the season by tying a career best eighth in April’s Kentuckiana Ford Dealers ARCA 200.
Reviewing the past and looking ahead, Silas is looking forward to Saturday night’s showdown and is more than ready to return his No. 11 to the top-10.
“Salem Speedway is an awesome place,” said Silas, a native of Stuart , Florida . “We’ve raced a lot of short tracks this year but nothing mounts up to Salem . It’s a rough place, but a track that requires a lot of attention. I know we’ll have the equipment to get the job done, we’ll just need luck to be on our side, something that we haven’t had lately.”
With just three races remaining in the 2007 ARCA RE/MAX Series season, Silas wants to continue to show his challengers that his team has come a long way this season and while the team has showed strength on the speedways, their short track program has also picked up the pace as well.
“We’ve run very well this season,” continued Silas. “We really haven’t raced a short track lately as we’ve been flooded with speedways and the dirt. Berlin was our last short track battle and we had a good qualifying run and a solid finish. We have the strength to go to Salem this weekend and pick off where we left off in Michigan .”
Locking the ninth position in the ARCA RE/MAX Series point standings, Silas is battling another race. Sitting 230 points from eighth and 75 markers ahead of tenth, Silas looks to gain some ground on eighth and stretch from 10th.
“Our primary goal heading into the season was to finish in the top-10. We’re on track, but as a driver I’m always looking at ways to better myself. The next three races will be tough. Two short tracks and an intense superspeedway. Luckily, my car owner Andy Hillenburg has given me the components to get the job done and I think we will. Eighth place here we come.”
Nortrax, Shell Rotella T, Holland Pump and Palm Beach Grading (PBG) will all sponsor the No. 11 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS in the 79th ARCA event held at the Salem Speedway.
“I really wished this race was going to be televised. It’s an awesome race. The spring race was competitive and I expect the same this weekend. Our sponsors have done a great deal for us this season and I would like nothing more than to capture our fourth top-10 finish of the season Saturday night.”
Heading into Salem, Silas has 26 ARCA RE/MAX Series starts to his credit with a career best finish of eighth at Salem Speedway (April 2007) and Kentucky Speedway (July 2007) while holding an additional top-10 performance at USA International Speedway (March 2007). He holds a career best short track time trials effort of seventh at Berlin Raceway (July 2007). A fourth place qualifying effort at Pocono Raceway (June 2007) is Silas's best speedway run to date. He has controlled the ARCA field for 23 laps in two races.
The Eddie Gilstrap Motors ARCA Fall Classic by Advance Auto Parts (200 laps/110 miles) is the 21st of 23 races on the 2007 ARCA RE/MAX Series schedule. The 79th ARCA race held at Salem Speedway is a one-day show. Practice begins Saturday, September 15 with an hour and a half practice session planned from 1:30-2:35pm. ARCA SIM Factory pole qualifying is set for later in the day at 4:00pm Local Time. The event will take the green flag shortly after 7:15pm Local Time. The race will not be televised but additional race coverage is available online at arcaracing.com.
