U.S. DOT Reminds Public to Check for Recalls as Clocks Spring Forward

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
8 March 2018

Check for recalls twice a year on NHTSA.gov/recalls

As daylight saving time approaches on Sunday, March 11, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is reminding the public to check their vehicles for open recalls as part of the Safe Cars Save Lives Check for Recalls campaign. Recalled vehicles are repaired FOR FREE.

“Be sure that you are keeping yourself and your family safe, check your vehicle for important safety recalls today,” said Heidi King, NHTSA Deputy Administrator. “Did you know that you don’t have to pay to fix safety recalls? Please visit NHTSA.gov/recalls to find out if your car or truck has an outstanding recall, and call your dealership for your free repair.”

To help spread the word, NHTSA is hosting a #CheckForRecalls Tweetup on March 8, from 1-4 p.m. ET and is urging consumers to take the following actions:

In 2017, there were 813 new vehicle safety recalls affecting more than 30 million vehicles in the United States. The Safe Cars Save Lives Check for Recalls campaign urges the public to check their vehicles at least twice a year - every March when setting clocks forward and every November when setting clocks back.
