The U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is seeking input on the Department’s Federal Automated Vehicles Policy through in-person public meetings and the online Federal Register.
The Policy, released on Sept. 20, promotes the safe and efficient development and deployment of highly automated vehicles.
The first public meeting will be Nov. 10 in Washington, D.C., from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., at the General Services Administration Regional Office Building, 301 7th Street (7th and D Sts), SW.
During the morning session of the meeting, NHTSA will seek public input on the overall Policy. During the afternoon session, NHTSA will seek specific input from the public on the safety assessment letter outlined in the Vehicle Performance Guidance for Automated Vehicles.
All comments at the Nov. 10 meeting will be oral, and any presentations should be submitted to the docket for inclusion. The meeting will not be webcast. All attendees, regardless of whether they wish to make a presentation, must register online by Nov. 8.
Written comments can be submitted through the Federal Rulemaking Portal. To submit comments on the Federal Automated Vehicles Policy, use docket NHTSA-2016-0090. Written comments will be given the same weight in consideration as any oral comments give in person, and must be received by Nov. 22.
