U.S. Transportation Secretary Mineta Announces $3.8 for Minnesota Transportation Projects

U.S. Transportation Secretary Norman Y. Mineta today announced that newly released funds from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) will help reduce congestion, enhance safety and improve traffic flow at key transportation projects around the state. The Bush administration is providing almost $3.8 million for completion of the 34th Street Corridor in Moorhead, the U.S. Route 10 Interchange in Ramsey and five other Minnesota transportation projects.

"Investing in Minnesota's highways is the best way to get people to their jobs, families to their homes and goods to market," Secretary Mineta said.

Several of the projects will ease congestion on some of the state's most heavily traveled roads. The Bush administration has slated more than $579,000 for completion of the 34^th Street Corridor in Moorhead, which will improve traffic flow in this busy trade corridor.

Other projects include $115,000 for improvements to the U.S. Route 10 Interchange in Ramsey and almost $600,000 to improve U.S. Route 53 from International Falls on the Minnesota/Canada border to Chippewa Falls, WI, otherwise known as the Falls-to-Falls Corridor.

"The funding we're announcing today is an investment in the transportation infrastructure of Minnesota and the region," said FHWA Administrator Mary Peters. "The President understands that these investments are important to our quality of life and to keep our economy moving."
