You may have heard of the saying: Prevention is better than cure. The same thing goes with your car air conditioner. Before it breaks down and becomes obsolete, you have to maintain it properly so as to increase its useful life.
A car air conditioner works perfectly for a year after first use. But as you use it daily, several factors can diminish the working capacity of the cooling equipment. Still, you have a choice. You will ultimately have to spend thousands of dollars to repair your car's air conditioner when the time comes or prolong that time and use the equipment for the longest time possible.
How to maintain your car aircon, on your own.
As layman people without knowledge in car repair and other car services, you cannot just take out a wrench and clank your way to the air conditioner. You have to seek help from licensed mechanics who knows how to deal with car issues. But the point here is to stop car problems from happening before it gets massive. Simple things can be done by you to ensure your car aircon proper functions.
1. Refrigerant problems. If you notice a slow cooling on your car aircon, it can be due to the refrigerant. So, to avoid this problem, remind your mechanic about it after two years on first use. This must be dealt with at first sign of low cooling system.
2. Gas leaks. A car is used to transport you from one point to another. Sometimes, it is on and driving for hours. This can create some leakage issues with your car that can affect your air conditioner. So, when your car fast forwards to Year 4 and thousands of miles after, it has a profound effect on your pipes and tubes. You can help by letting a mechanic check it every now and then after the 4th year. Every now and then means once every 6 months, at least.
3. Winter times. You have to use your car air conditioner even during winter. You may think that aircon is cold and why make yourself colder than you already are, right? The answer is simple - the oil on the compressor seal will dry up if not in use and that can affect the efficiency of your air conditioner. Now, you have to turn it up even when it is cold outside in order for your car aircon to stay longer and work better.
You may have learned some tips on how to maintain your car air conditioner. But one thing is certain - the need to visit your car mechanic is imperative. It is like having yourself checked by your dentist or family doctor once a year, for maintenance. Your car needs the same thing.
