The Responsibilities Of Owning A Motorcycle

Jack Phillips
8 December 2012

Studies show that the increasing cost of owning a car is one of the main factors behind the rise in motorcycle sales. No wonder more and more people are falling in love with motorcycles and the motorcycle finance industry is celebrating.

However, owning and riding a motorcycle does not come easy. Some things have to be kept in mind if you want your motorcycle to live longer and perform better. Proper care and maintenance is needed. You may even need to bring it to the mechanic for check-ups. Bear in mind though that you also need to know some basic motorbike maintenance steps too. You, as an owner, also have some responsibilities to take especially when safety is concern. So you have to be aware about the basic components like brakes, handlebars, drive chain, lights and signals, controls, and the tires that must be checked before going on a ride.

Brakes are a necessity for every motorcycle ride. You cannot play with other vehicles on the road without your brakes so better be sure that your brakes are functioning well during the first few meters of your ride.

Handlebars make it easy for you to connect with the motorcycle but that would not be possible if they can hardly be moved. So make sure that you can turn the handlebars without difficulty.

Since the drive chain is also one of the vital components of your motorcycle, it also has to be working properly at all times especially if you don't want to be stuck in the middle of the road with your messed-up bike. So it would be a smart decision to do the lubrication before every ride.

Horn, lights, and signals, if malfunctioning, might put you in trouble especially during night time: trouble against traffic cops, or trouble against your own safety, or even both and the consequence is very undesirable. So better check them up beforehand.

Throttle, clutch, and gearshifts - they are important too. Do not expect to have a smooth ride unless these control buttons are in perfect riding condition.

The tires of your motorcycle must have the right air pressure level. Otherwise, you will have a hard time achieving that smooth ride you looked forward to.

Riding a motorcycle can be very risky. So if any of the basic components are facing critical issues, then maybe buying a new one with the help of motorcycle loan companies is a wise decision.
