A Mixed Bag Of Feelings About Volvo’s 2019 S60 Polestar

A year ago the motoring world heard that the 2019 Volvo S60 T8 Polestar Engineered would be rarer than a supercar, and it’s finally time to see whether this claim lives up to the hype. While this is an engineered version of the Polestar, avid fans of the original Polestar in its iconic blue can hardly be disappointed with this new release from Volvo. But if you think it’s going to be a simple installment sale on this new breed of S60s, you’re in for a shocker. Reports reveal that this particular model will only be available through Volvo’s Care by Volvo subscription scheme.

Options Are Good, Right?

It’s great news to Volvo fans that the 2019 Polestar still offers the S60 or V60 option, which still makes it a good choice for the seasoned executive or the discerning family man. While these options can be expected, it’s the iconic bursting blue metallic color that seems to provide some grumblings to Polestar purists. Motorists have the option of five colors, which almost seems wrong and a slight disservice to the brand. It’s almost the same as purchasing the iconic Bullitt Mustang in any other color but that deep forest green so synonymous with the car.

The Engine Wins Over The Skeptics

Volvo with their Polestar engines is giving brands such as Tesla some gears as enthusiasts brace themselves for the T8 twin engine. The four-cylinder engine runs far smoother than previous models and those who are used to the somewhat gritty sound of previous Volvos as they pick up the pace on the freeway, will either be pleasantly surprised that it’s gone or will be enveloped by a lost sense of nostalgia that it’s no longer there. Tinkering and adjusting the engine bay is no longer necessary, as the Care by Volvo subscription takes care of all the servicing and maintenance needs of the car. According to ChicMoto, this doesn’t prevent car owners from brushing up their knowledge on the interior of their car’s hood. Checking your oil levels and other quick engine bay checks will come in handy if drivers ever run into problems in areas that don’t necessarily have network coverage.

Strict Ownership Limitations

Those who happened to get their hands on the 2019 Volvo S60 Polestar had to beat off the competitors, as the only 20 models destined for the States were snagged up in under an hour. With no further models available in stock, Volvo Polestar fans were understandably upset and may have disavowed the brand forever, had it not been for the promise of a bigger, better 2020 version. Both the 2020 Volvo XC60 and the 2020 Volvo V60 have the iconic Polestar engineering to look forward to. For Volvo fans, this is the time to get onto the waiting list in order to enjoy the 415 horsepower and 494 pound-feet of torque.

It’s not considered hubris to say that the Volvo and Polestar partnership is both iconic and legendary and that every gearhead should experience the sheer pleasure of driving one of these at least once in their lifetimes.
