Arrest of Randy Rivera-Nevarez and Domingo E. Bruno-Cotto for Carjacking with Serious Bodily Injury and Hobbs Act Robbery

SAN JUAN, PR—Special Agent in Charge Douglas A. Leff, of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) San Juan Field Office, announced the arrest of Randy Rivera-Nevarez and Domingo Emanuel Bruno-Cotto at Toa Baja, Puerto Rico.

A criminal complaint issued on August 27, 2019, charging Rivera-Nevarez and Bruno-Cotto with “Carjacking with serious bodily injury” in violation of Title 18 United States Code 2119(2). Rivera-Nevarez was additionally charged with “Hobbs Act Robbery—interference with commerce by threats or violence” in violation of Tile 18 United States Code, Section 1951(a).

If convicted Rivera-Nevarez and Bruno-Cotto face a maximum term of imprisonment of 25 Years for carjacking and additionally Rivera-Nevarez faces a maximum of 20 years for Hobbs Act Robbery.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) Jonathan Gottfried and investigated by the FBI.

The public is reminded a criminal complaint contains only charges and is not evidence of guilt. A defendant is presumed to be innocent until and unless proven guilty. The U.S. government has the burden of proving guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
