SANTA FE – In an effort to prevent COVID-19 community spread, the New Mexico Department of Transportation has closed its offices statewide to the public for the next few weeks, following a directive issued Sunday from Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham. The directive calls for all state agencies to accelerate remote-work initiatives resulting from the current public health crisis associated with the Coronavirus.
“That does not mean our commitment to the public will stop. NMDOT will continue to provide essential services including maintenance and construction activities on our roadways,” said Cabinet Secretary Michael Sandoval. “Our rest areas will remain open to the public and we are amplifying clean-up methods at increased frequency rates in order to minimize public health risks. Many of our workers have been asked to telework from home in order to limit person-to-person contact and emphasize social distancing but again, essential services will continue,” added Sandoval.
In addition to the General office in Santa Fe, all six District offices as well as the construction and maintenance patrol buildings will be closed to the public. The districts will be available to answer questions, provide assistance and process requests, not limited to permit applications. District personnel teleworking from home will respond to all requests through telephone and email.
New Mexicans who have symptoms of COVID-19, such as fever, cough, or shortness of breath, should call their health care provider or the NMDOH COVID-19 hotline immediately at 1-855-600-3453.
