Special Agent in Charge Douglas A. Leff of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) San Juan Field Office announced the arrest of Gabriel Abner Hernandez Santos.

Hernandez Santos was detained by Police of Puerto Rico agents of the San Juan Criminal Investigations Corp (CIC) on October 31, 2019. The FBI Safe Street Task Force took over the investigation and on November 1, 2019 arrested Hernandez Santos under a complaint with violations of Title 18 U.S.C. § 2119(1) (carjacking) and § 924(c)(1)(A)(ii) (brandishing of firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence) for events which took place in San Juan on October 8, 2019. If found guilty, Hernandez Santos faces up to 15 years in federal prison.

This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) Jonathan L. Gottfried and is being investigated by the FBI.
