National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
12 September 2018
Due to the anticipated severe weather from Hurricane Florence, which is forecast to make landfall along the east coast of the United States later this week, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is rescheduling the New Car Assessment Program public meeting to October 1, 2018. The public meeting was originally scheduled for September 14, 2018. The meeting is intended to continue the public dialogue on the latest insights into evolving technology, consumer preferences, and social trends important to American car buyers.
NHTSA’s New Car Assessment Program crash-tests new vehicles and rates them on how well they protect occupants in frontal, side, and rollover crashes. Results from these tests are compiled into a rating of 1 to 5 stars, with 5 stars being the highest rating. The vehicle safety ratings appear on window stickers of new cars, and are on NHTSA’s NCAP website at www.nhtsa.gov/ratings. The program also includes a checklist of recommended advanced crash avoidance technology systems such as lane departure warning, forward collision warning, crash imminent braking, and dynamic brake support. Visit NHTSA.gov/ratings for details.
