A lot of things have undergone major changes since the introduction of the air conditioning system more than three decades ago. Pontiac vehicles in particular have added some complex modifications in their air conditioning system. Some of these include the computerization of temperature control. This allows you to set your preferred temperature then the system automatically adjusts them. Modern air conditioning systems may have changed a lot over these years, but they still have the same function in your car—to keep your driving as comfortable as possible by keeping your car interior cool, especially during hot conditions. Your car’s air conditioning is made up of a number of sub components that contribute to the cooling process of your car. Because it is a system, the failure of one or more of its parts to perform their intended function would definitely affect the system’s over-all performance. There are actually three different types of air conditioning systems in vehicles. But no matter how different they are, the design and concept of these systems are very much similar.
Among the similarities in the three types of car air conditioning systems are the sub components—and one of these is the AC condenser. Like most vehicles, your Pontiac AC condenser resembles the appearance and the function of the radiator. Like the radiator, your AC condenser is designed to radiate heat. Their only difference is that that the radiator conveys heat out of the engine compartment, while the AC condenser radiates heat from the air conditioning system. The location of this air conditioning component is usually in front of the radiator. Sometimes you can see this vehicle component installed along the low pressure side of the air conditioning system. But because some vehicles have aerodynamic improvements, the location of the AC condenser may differ. The actual heat dissipation actually happens in your Pontiac AC condenser. It does this by radiating the heat of the refrigerant through its cooling fins. As the hot refrigerant passes through the cooling fins of the AC condenser, it cools down and eventually turned into liquid form.
Just like the other car components, your Pontiac AC condenser would eventually wear out as time passes. Because this cooling system part is constantly exposed to stress, the cooling fins can get bent, resulting to reduced cooling efficiency. Another factor that can cause your Pontiac AC condenser to get damaged is when corrosion and rust starts to accumulate and eat up its metal parts. When this happens, you will definitely get sweaty all over because your cooling system will not be able work properly due to a poorly functioning sub component. But you can prevent premature wear from happening by employing some basic maintenance procedures. You can do this by spraying the exterior of your Pontiac AC condenser with a cooling system mist spray once a month to remove any mineral build up. When you prevent mineral and rust build up, you can be sure that the efficiency of your Pontiac AC condenser will improve. And when it functions well, the entire air conditioning system would be able to provide you with the best ventilation—even in the hottest weather condition!
