FMCSA Adopts Procedures Enhancing Safeguards for Voluntarily Submitted Confidential Business Information

Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration
21 June 2015

WASHINGTON -- The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has established procedures to further protect from public disclosure certain confidential commercial or financial information voluntarily submitted to the agency.

The announcement, published in the Federal Register on June 10, 2015, as a procedural rule, does not make any substantive changes to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSRs) and therefore was not subject to notice and comment under the Administrative Procedure Act.

The rule does not change the standard under which confidential business information is protected from disclosure under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and it does not impose any additional regulatory burden.
