Mrs. Lee Is Very Versatile Woman

The Daily Record (Dunn, North Carolina)
20 May 1952

Ever since he entered the automobile and service station field over 20 years ago, Wilbert Lee has wanted his own automobile dealership.

Mrs. Wilbert Lee of Dunn, North Carolina
Back in 1944 when Wilbert Lee opened Lee's Service Station here, Mrs. Lee went down to work in the office "just to help get him started."

That was eight years ago and I'm still helping him get started," recalled Mrs. Lee today with a laugh.

"I've been planning to go back and keep house ever since, but it looks like I stay busy here," she added.

Truth of the matter is that Mrs. Lee actually does both. She serves as the efficient office manager and secretary-treasurer of Lee Motors of Dunn, Inc. and Lee's Truck Truck Terminal, manages a very efficient home.

And, on top of that, she devotes many hours each week to her church, looks after her family and still finds time to serve as high school grade-mother.

But when a reporter asked what her duties were Mrs. Lee modestly declared: "I really don't have a job. I just do a little of this and that."

HER DAY IS LONG

Actually, Mrs. Lee can be found at her desk from early in the morning to well past six in the afternoon. Few business men or women keep as long hours as she observes.

Next to Mr. Lee, she knows the ins and outs of the business better than anybody else because she's been with it all the time. She has seen it grow from a small and modest beginning to one of the largest firms of its kind to be found anywhere.

Truckers say that Lee's Truck Terminal does more business than any other trucking stop between Miami and New York. As yet, nobody has bothered to try to dispute the statement.

Like her husband, Mrs. Lee is a native and lifelong resident of Dunn. She's the former Miss Lettie Hobson, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Hobson.

Outside of her church and business duties, she devotes practically all her time to her family and is vitally interested in the local schools.

She served as grade mother last year for Dunn High School seniors when her son, George, was a member of that class and this year is grademother for the Juniors, which is Becky's class.

The students at school all know that when they want something done for the school Mrs. Lee will always do it. For that reason, they call on her often.

Mrs. Lee recalls that she once joined the Junior Woman's Club. She attended one meeting and hasn't had the opportunity to go back since.

ACTIVE CHURCH WORKER

But when it comes to her church Mrs. Lee puts it ahead of all other organizations and activities.

She taught Sunday School at the Grove Presbyterian Church for about 20 years, even before she was married at the young age of 17.

She's been active in the Women of the Church ever since the local unit was organized and is now serving her third year as district president of the Women of the Church at the Fayetteville Presbytery. She's made a splendid record in the office, too.

Mrs. Lee is mighty proud of Lee Motors of Dunn, Inc. and Lee's Truck Terminal, but, most of all, she's proud of her family.

And they're mighty proud of her, too!
