Keep your Family Safe with a Pontiac Seat Belt

It is unavoidable that we use our vehicles whether it will be just a short drive to the grocery, on our way to work or a long trip with family and friends. Our vehicles are our mode of transportation. And no matter how much careful we are or how much we try to avoid it, accidents can still happen. And if you have the most important people in your life inside the vehicle you want to make sure that you reach your destination safely. A lot of safety devices and equipment have been developed to ensure better protection for the driver and passengers alike. One of these safety devices is the Pontiac Seat Belt which has become a permanent fixture or standard safety equipment because safety experts agree that chances of surviving an accident increases when you buckle up with a seatbelt.

A Pontiac Seat Belt, sometimes called a safety belt is a harness designed to keep the passenger or occupant of a vehicle secure against any harmful movement which may result to a sudden stop or a collision. What it does is keep the wearer immobile or restrained in its place to prevent them from being thrown from the vehicle or hitting any hard interior or other occupants of the vehicle. In sudden abrupt stops or in collisions, the upper body will thrust forward instantly but the seat belt will restrain it from going towards the steering wheel or the windshield. The Pontiac Seat Belt utilizes a three-point retractable seat belt for all positions where the strap goes over your shoulder down to the hip where the locking mechanism is located. At the same time, a belt goes over the lap when you strapped it over the shoulder. The seat belt comes with the locking system that tightens once the belt is pulled hard ensuring that the person stay put or has limited movement. When comfortably worn, seatbelts can dramatically offer great comfort and safety in any driving condition. The Pontiac Seat Belt also utilizes the latest innovation in seatbelt technology which is the pre-tensioner seatbelt. The pretensioner causes the seatbelt to tighten if the vehicle senses an accident, or when the vehicle stops short. Like the air bag, the pretensioner can only be used once and should be replaced after an accident. During accidents, the pretensioners pull back the seatbelt to take away excess slack. Even when using a pretensioner, the Pontiac Seat Belt should still be worn securely because the pretensioner is not strong enough to restrain the occupant in the seat in cases of accidents or collisions.

There are different types of seatbelts such as the lap seatbelts, sash seatbelts, lap and sash seatbelts, two-point seatbelts, automatic seatbelts, three-point seatbelts, criss-cross seatbelts, five point harnesses, six-point harnesses, and inertia reel. They each have particular systems on how they do their function depending on your vehicle type and intended user. The locking mechanisms equipped in most seatbelts tighten the belt when pulled hard; however, they do not tighten when the seatbelts are pulled slowly. As the reel spins quickly, the centrifugal clutch implemented in the seatbelts is engaged. A ball bearing or a weighted pendulum may be an alternative option to secure the seatbelts.
