Car batteries are oftentimes the root cause of troubleshooting. They are either out of power or unable to transfer the right amount of charge to the car. The irony of it is that car batteries are really bound to troubleshoot, one way or another. The good thing about Mazdas, though, is that they have the Mazda Alternator. Yes, all other cars have alternators, but the Mazda Alternator differs in the quality that its name bears. All Mazda Alternators are sure to perform with the highest efficiency rate for the security of one's car.
Here is a little peek under the hood to better understand how alternators work. Any AC generator can be considered an alternator, but an alternator usually pertains to small rotating machines driven by automotive and other internal combustion engines. As an electromechanical tool, an alternator transforms mechanical energy to alternating current electrical energy. Although most alternators use a rotating magnetic field, linear alternators are also occasionally used. Since alternators do not use a commutator unlike direct-current generators, they are simpler, lighter, less costly, and more rugged. In fact, auto manufacturers used alternators as a substitute for DC generators when low-cost solid-state diodes became available.
The Mazda Alternator is used to charge the battery and to power the car's electric system when its engine is running. It is strongly built, thus it can turn twice as fast as the engine, which greatly improves the output when the engine is idling. It also has a built-in voltage regulator, which works by modulating the small field current to produce a constant voltage at the stator output. The field current of the alternator is much less than its output current. To illustrate, a 70-amp alternator may need only 2 amps of field current.
Inevitably, alternators may wear out due to fan cooling loss, bearing loss, copper loss, and voltage drop in the diode bridges. If this happens, it is best to seek professional help and consider having a Mazda Alternator installed.
