FBI Searching for 1.8 Million Dollar ATM Courier Van Thief

FBI Atlanta
20 September 2017

Stolen Courier Van
ATLANTA—Special Agent in Charge David J. LeValley, FBI Atlanta Field Office, in conjunction with Dekalb County Police Chief J. W. Conroy, request the public’s assistance in identifying and locating the individual responsible for a recent metro Atlanta ATM courier van theft.

On September 8, 2017, a cargo van containing approximately $1,845,750 in U.S. currency was stolen while parked at the Citizens Trust Bank (CTB) located at 2592 South Hairston Road, Decatur, Georgia.

At approximately 6:45 a.m. on September 8, 2017, two employees of ATM Response Inc. arrived at the CTB to make a cash drop into the ATM and parked the vehicle in front of the bank. The driver and passenger exited the vehicle with an unspecified amount of cash to load the ATM, leaving a large amount of cash in the cargo of the vehicle. The driver locked the vehicle doors, but left the keys in the ignition and the vehicle running. The driver and passenger were inside the bank for approximately 10 to 15 minutes. When the driver and passenger returned to the parking lot, they discovered the vehicle was stolen and broken glass was on the ground where the vehicle was previously parked. Review of the camera footage from inside of the ATM room showed a person in dark pants, a baggy gray long-sleeve shirt, with a black backpack approach the vehicle. The suspect pulled on the driver’s side door and then the passenger’s side door.

The theft information was subsequently transmitted via law enforcement communications. At approximately 8:30 a.m. on same date, the DeKalb County Marshall’s Unit observed the stolen vehicle in the area of 4749 Galleon Crossing, Decatur, Georgia. The vehicle was unoccupied, and there was no sign of the suspect at the scene.

Subject is described as being a male, wearing dark pants, baggy gray long sleeve t-shirt with a black backpack.

Requesting information especially from individuals that live in the Hairston Forest South Neighborhood in Decatur GA.

Anyone with information regarding this matter should contact Crime Stoppers Atlanta at tel. (404) 577-8477.
