It is the job of auto journalists to tell the world what is happening in the auto industry. Just like in any discipline, auto journalists are expected to provide information to automotive enthusiasts and other people. Recently, the best in their field were honored by the Motor press Guild in an awarding ceremony.
Five MPG awards were handed out to journalists in different disciplines which include articles, books, photography, and audio/visual and the fifth is a Lifetime Achievement Award. Apart from these awards, the prestigious Dean Batchelor award was also given.
According to The Auto Channel, the winner in the MPG Best of the Year Awards for the article category is Preston Lerner for "Fast & Spurious". According to the report, the said article is about a "quirky spoof of a race" called the "24 Hours of Le Mons". The event is held annually at the Altamont Motorsports Park in Northern California. Vehicles entered at the said event are priced below $500. According to Lerner, the event is "the Doo Dah Parade meets the Daytona 500, with elements of a demolition derby and 'The Gong Show' thrown in for good measure."
For the book category, the award was given to Bernard Cahier for F-Stops, Pit Stops, Laughter & Tears. According to the report, this book "is the story of Bernard Cahier's long and fascinating journey through the automotive world of the 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s, focusing on the sport of motor racing. It also covers his life before motor racing, as a fighter in the French resistance in World War II, and chronicles the many friends he's made, and those he, and we, have unfortunately lost."
Apart from winning in the book category, Cahier also won the Dean Batchelor Award.
For the photography category, the prize was taken by Louis Ann Noeth for "Salton Sea Roadster". The picture depicts a modified racing vehicles standing along the abandoned marina shoreline of the Salton Sea in California.
For the audio/visual category, Ed Justice Jr. was given the accolade for his radio interview "Insights into Car Branding with Charlie Hughes". The said interviews is an "engaging" one which gives people the chance to know what it is like to be working for an American automaker.
The Lifetime Achievement Award was given to Tom and Ray Magliozzi known as Click & Clack and the Tappet Brothers for the Car Talk program from the National Public Radio. The said program is being heard by over 4.1 million listeners every week in 588 radio stations. The brothers also have their own newspaper column called Click & Clack Talk Cars. Said column appears in 335 newspapers. These are the guys that everyone would go to if they want advice on where to get an Acura CL air filter recharge kit.
