HOUSTON, TX—Up to $5,000 can be yours if you can help identify the armed robber who drove off with a Loomis armored vehicle on the University of Houston campus last week. Today, the FBI released a sketch of the armed robber and announced the Crime Stoppers reward.
On December 6th, 2013, before 8 a.m., two Loomis messengers were conducting business on the University campus. One of the messengers was outside the vehicle when an armed robber approached the female driver and ordered her out of the reinforced armored van at gunpoint. When the driver exited the van, the armed robber drove off with the reinforced armored van and the cash inside. During the take-away, the second messenger fired a gunshot at the armed robber. No injuries were reported during the incident. The reinforced armored van was recovered nearby inside a parking garage on campus. Cash was missing from the van. However, some cash remained inside the vehicle. A red pick-up truck believed to have been involved in the crime was also recovered a short distance away at a Planned Parenthood. The vehicle was later confirmed to have been reported stolen from the area.
Witnesses in the case worked with law enforcement to develop a composite sketch of the armed robber. The armed robber is described as a black male, 25 to 35 years old, 5’11” to 6’0” tall, and 180 to 200 pounds with a medium complexion. He was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt or “hoodie” with white stripes or epaulets. He was armed with a semi-automatic handgun.
Members of the FBI Bank Robbery Task Force have responded to 11 armored car robberies in the Greater Houston area this year.
