Subaru Releases First Photos of 2009 Forester

Subaru of America, Inc. recently released the first official photos of the all-new, third-generation 2009 Forester. The vehicle, which sports a total redesign of the award-winning crossover utility vehicle, will debut at the 2008 North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January.

The 2009 Forester builds upon its predecessor's status as a dependable icon for safety, comfort and versatility. The new-generation 2009 model showcases a bolder, more SUV-like design and making a major leap in safety technology, ergonomics, sophistication and driving dynamics.

Subaru’s new pride, which arrives in Subaru dealerships this spring, comes equipped with the Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive as a standard feature. An all-new platform featuring a 3.6-inch longer wheelbase and double-wishbone rear suspension improves crash-worthiness and provides improved handling, quieter ride and increased interior space and cargo room, the company said. The vehicle once again blends positive attributes of a sport utility including a high seating point and interior versatility with passenger car comfort, fuel efficiency and handling.

All 2009 Forester models are also equipped with standard side-curtain airbags with a rollover sensor, and the Vehicle Dynamics Control stability and traction control system is standard on all models for the first time. With the Subaru Dynamic Chassis Control Concept (Subaru DC3), the automaker optimized all elements of the Forester's chassis to deliver a better balance of ride, handling response, quietness and overall traction performance than offered by competitive vehicles, Subaru said. A wide-ranging array of elements contributes to that goal, including the new, standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, high-strength body structure, VDC and four-wheel disc ABS brakes with the Brake Assist safety system.

What’s more, manual-transmission models feature Incline Start Assist, which can momentarily avoid the vehicle from rolling backward when being driven away from a stop on an incline.

The 2009 Forester is only about three inches longer than its predecessor, thus retaining the trim exterior packaging cited by Forester owners as one of this model's most essential features, reports said. A robust body structure, heavy-duty raised four-wheel independent suspension system and up to 8.9 inches of ground clearance help make the CUV equally proficient at managing complicated roads and absorbing bumps and ruts.

The 2009 Forester offers naturally aspirated and turbocharged/intercooled 2.5-liter Boxer engines, both improved to provide better low-end and mid-range torque for more responsive everyday performance. The feature is mated to a Subaru timing belt and other reliable auto parts accessories to produce a compelling vehicle.

Additionally, new interior materials, including high-grade plastics and double-stitched fabrics, impart a feeling of higher quality. As before, Forester is offered in a wide array of models, with the 2009 Forester 2.5 X offering one of the best values in the CUV segment and the range-topping Forester L.L. Bean Edition offering more luxury without sacrificing its sporty nature.

For the first time, the 2009 Forester offers a navigation system as well as advanced audio system upgrade options. The vehicle comes pre-wired for XM(R) or SIRIUS(R) Satellite Radio. Also, an auxiliary audio input jack enables connection of an iPod(R) or MP3 player.
