Reuters List Top Selling Vehicles For 2007

Reuters List Top Selling Vehicles For 2007

Anthony Fontanelle
January 7, 2008

With 2008 just starting and automakers lining up their goods to attract consumers, Reuters reported the top twenty vehicles which have attracted the most buyers last year. The list is published in The Auto Channel among many other sites. The report is based on the actual sales report made public by automakers.

The Ford F-Series is still the best selling vehicle in the United States with 796,039 units sold last year. This marks the 31st year that the F-Series leads all vehicle models in terms of sales. Although the F-Series is at the top of the list, things are looking bad for Ford as sales of the series dropped by 13.2 percent compared to 2006 figures.

Second on the list is the Chevy Silverado. General Motors delivered 636,069 units of this pickup truck last year. For years, the Silverado has been trailing the F-Series in terms of sales and popularity among consumers. But the Silverado looks to be closing in on the F-Series as its sales figure only dropped by 2.8 percent. The presence of the F-Series and the Silverado at the top of the list just shows that even with the increasing price of petroleum fuel, thousands of American auto buyers are still going for pickup trucks.

Number three on the list is a midsize sedan from Toyota which is of course the Camry. Sales of the Camry jumped by 5.5 percent, enough for it to maintain its third place ranking and get closer to the Silverado. The Camry is followed by Honda's Accord which posted sales reaching 354,442 - an increase of 10.7 percent over 2006 figures. The increased sale of the Accord is credited to Honda's good redesign of the sedan while the Camry is still pretty much unchanged.

With the increased sale of the Accord, it was able to jump one place higher on the list, therefore delegating the Toyota Corolla to fifth place. Although with the increasing price of petroleum fuel, consumers are expected to purchase smaller and more fuel efficient vehicles like the Corolla, consumers seem to be turning away from the compact Toyota. Sales of the Toyota Corolla dropped by 4.1 percent in 2007 compared to 2006 figures.

The Dodge Ram is number six on the list with sales dropping by 1.6 percent. The Honda Civic is next with sales increased by 4.6 percent. The Civic maintained its seventh place ranking. Up next on the list is the Chevy Impala on eighth place with sales increasing by 7.3 percent last year. That is enough for it to retain its eighth place ranking. The Altima climbed a spot higher at ninth place with sale increased by 22.5 percent. Rounding up the top ten is the Honda CR-V which made a huge jump from 20th to 10th place.

No European car made it to the list. This is really not a surprise as one do not see as many Volkswagen Golf distributor rotor -equipped Golf units around as much as Ford F-150s.
