Rail delivery train now scheduled to operate on Sunday, January 22, from Spring Lake to Bay Head

NJT-12-003B

NEWARK, NJ — Due to inclement weather forecast for Saturday, January 21, NJ TRANSIT has rescheduled delivery of railroad materials for the following day, Sunday, January 22. The railroad materials will be used for a track replacement project on the North Jersey Coast Line that will begin this spring. NJ TRANSIT is advising communities from Spring Lake to Bay Head that several grade crossings will be impacted as the rail delivery train passes through and workers unload the material.

The delivery work will take place from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., beginning in Spring Lake and proceeding south to Bay Head. Because of the length of the train—2,000 feet—vehicular traffic at railroad grade crossings will be impacted for approximately 20-minute periods when the train stops for unloading.

The towns and affected road crossings are:

Spring Lake

Manasquan

Point Pleasant Beach

Sea Girt

Bay Head

NJ TRANSIT has coordinated with local officials and police departments in the affected towns. In addition, NJ TRANSIT staff will be on hand at each of the grade crossings to manually open and close the gates as the train goes by.
