NJ TRANSIT to cross honor bus passes on trains from July 16 to July 31

NEWARK, NJ — Beginning on or about Friday, July 13 and continuing through late-Fall, one of the three eastbound lanes on the Cross Bronx Expressway at the Alexander Hamilton Bridge in the Bronx will be closing for repairs. This New York project will impact NJ TRANSIT bus customers who travel across the George Washington Bridge due to a significant reduction in vehicular traffic capacity along the eastbound Cross Bronx Expressway between Manhattan and the Bronx.

Many of NJ TRANSIT’s bus routes traveling at the inbound George Washington Bridge and points in and around Fort Lee, New Jersey will operate with significant delays as buses will experience increased traffic congestion, especially near the immediate construction zone.

Additionally, some bus routes traveling from New York City to New Jersey may operate with delays due to buses arriving late at the George Washington Bridge Bus Terminal.

The affected bus routes include:

171 Paterson – New York
175 Ridgewood – New York
178 Hackensack – New York
181 Union City – New York
182 Hackensack – New York
186 Dumont – New York
188 North Bergen – New York

A number of local NJ TRANSIT bus routes operating locally in Fort Lee also will be impacted by traffic congestion caused by the bridge construction project:

No. 153 Fairview – Fort Lee – New York Express
No. 154 Fort Lee – Palisades Park – New York
No. 156 & 156R Englewood Cliffs – New York
No. 158 Fort Lee – Edgewater – New York
No. 159 & 159R Fort Lee – New York
No. 755 Edgewater - Fort Lee – Paramus
No. 756 Englewood Cliffs – Fort Lee - Paramus

All customers on these affected bus routes are advised to allow for extra travel time getting to and from their destination. Travel during peak hours is anticipated to be most heavily congested.

NJ TRANSIT will assist bus customers impacted by this bridge construction and increase their travel options from July 16 until July 31. During this time, bus passes on the above routes will be cross-honored on NJ TRANSIT’s trains along the Northeast Corridor, North Jersey Coast Line, Midtown Direct, Main/Bergen and Pascack Valley Lines (except for travel to/from Metro-North stations).
